Mairtime action.

By Black Knight Leader, in X-Wing

If a ground battle SW game was made would anyone want a seperate over/under seas battle game or at least add-on to the ground fighting game?

I for one really would like to use TIE Torpedoes, TIE Boats, AT-AT swimmers legions of Imperial Navy Commandos with dive gear, Sea Troopers, Navy Dive Troopers, Abyss Troopers.

Imagine what the battle field features and hazards could be like?

JFYI I made the last two troopers up. The 2nd last I see as being the Mairtime counterpart to the reg Imperial Navy Trooper. The Abyss Trooper is a Stormy in a suit built like a Hazard Trooper or Space Trooper mk 2 with the added features like anti-grab/bite vibro blades and spikes. Laser cutters, quad proton torp launchers and one proton beam cannon.

FFG could work closer with SW/DISNEY/CHEE with this project and make a slew of mairtime based troops and vehicles.. What they make can be added to canon since barly anything exists for this type battle zone.

Don't forget the Wave Skimmers, which are basically surface versions of AT-ATs, only much quicker and deadlier.

I actully thought that the swimmer and skimmer where the samething lol. I think wookieepedia is missing the skimmer page. I also found a aquatic vehicle page and there alot more vehicles than I thought their were. Some of the ones I have seen look really cool to.

I figured out a way to integrate ground forces into the system with essentially no rules modifications, if you're interested. Vehicles are actually quite simple, infantry a little more complex.

I wouldnt mind seeing those mods. I quess for the most part the black, blue, and green mairtime ops can use those rules but also feel their needs to be rules invovling depth because you got traditional overwater ships like the AT-AT skimmer, and underwater ships like AT-AT swimmer.

Maybe we could have three levels top, mid, deep. Deep level get a massive boost for defensive dice rolls but can only move at 1/4 speed and take x 3 crits if hit by proton depth charges.

Sounds fun but sounds like you all are going too complex. Xwing is awesome because it is simple AND has tactical depth.

For a min their I was thinking hardly cared about this area of combat =) I think the prob is that battles in the sea post ANH are ether briefly shown or is is just put in a couple pages of war. Technically the clone wars has had more time to show of their era of battles in the deep blue. Altough I guess their could be purple oceans... maybe neon strobing pink too...

You could be right about the rules I just feel it would be more complex rule wise because of the dynamics of above water and below water wessels fighting each other.

It is clear I have barly come up with much substance rules wise to make this abit diffrent than X-Wing, maybe it doesnt have to, but I feel that at least now I do have a reason to now use all those extra base stems :)

Man now I want a kit of a AT-AT swimmer, maybe work on some concept art work of a Abyss Trooper...

Though I'm fine with this from a purely conceptual standpoint, we'd need to have stats and rules for all of this. I think it would be best if we started with ground units, then implemented water units afterwords. And there should be units for both sides, not just your fancy Imperial aqua divisions. >:[

For starters, lets' ask some very important questions: do we have ground troops in this game? Do we have turrets? How does pilot skill effect these units? Do we add the energy system to turrets and large units? How do land units move? Do they also have dials? How do firing arcs play into units like this? How does terrain work? Is there cover mechanics? Can obstacles and walls be destroyed or moved? How does elevation come into play with various land, sea, and aerospace units? Do Imperial Walkers move differently than vehicles with repulsorlift? For sea units do water currents and waves have to be considered?

These are just some of the questions that come into my head. In fact, I'm actually going to start a land combat thread and work from there.
