Boom just announced, some details on the Transport.

By newmagrathea, in X-Wing

What I want to know is how do bomb radii and the fore and aft sections work? If you plant a bomb very well and it's radius strikes both, do they both take damage/face up cards? does its size even make hitting both at once possible? The destructive capacity of a bomber run where the bombs can multi-hit makes me salivate….

Good question, hadn't thought of that. Also what about Assault Missiles?

The jam action could/will be pretty deadly against higher PS ships--if you can guess when they're about to reveal a red maneuver (or if you know they're going to reveal a red maneuver via an intelligence agent or two), you'll be able to do some dasterdly things.....

"opponent chooses a maneuver on your maneuver dial…"

HA! what am i saying!? This is FFG! It's going to be FOREVER until this thing is in our hands! Why am I worried?

What size play area is used in epic play? I want to make a gaming table that has a 4’ x 6’ play area for epic play but need to know what size would be the minimum.

Just wanted to point out that the only way this "helps" the Rebels is if any of the X-wing pilots or cards are useful in the regular dogfighting game.

Just because the Rebels are the ones getting ships for use w/ Epic/Cinematic rules doesn't mean the Imperials are at a disadvantage. For all we know the Imperials could end up having a major advantage in that scenario.

All I know is that thing makes me really glad I have 6 TIE Bombers a 5 Shutles to pounce on it with!

Looks cool but Splicer tools appear to be the death of the interceptor. Wow. Auto damage vs stress is cool but you can kill 1 interceptor a round with it without rolling a dice and still have an "energy" left.

Well, you can't. It's only one damage per ship.

It says that it is the "first starship without a primary weapon." I wonder if the new cards let you add weapon systems such as cannons or missiles. That would be "epic."

Umm WTF... 30 points for it to field, and with slicer tool, Jammer, and that other upgrade card, Imperials cant win. taking stress off of reb fighters, while all the while the possibility of damaging Imperial fighters that are stressed, and being able to stress them if they are in the 2-3 range.

Lookign closer at the title of the card there is a small icon to the right of the text. It looks like a circle, cut in half. The top half looks like.... BLACK SUN!!!

Seriously though, what is that?

I'm more excited for the new X-wing pilots. I wonder if Corran Horn and Whistler are in there too?

We know all the pilots and none are Corran. I suppose there's a chance for Whistler though as we know very little about the droids.

Speaking as a Rebel mostly player... My biggest issue with the Transport is that it seems to be a Rebel only ship. I know the Empire was never seen using one, and likely didn't have a huge need for such a thing when they have ISD's.

But for the game, and without seeing the rules... It seems like this gives the Reb's a huge number of new toys and nothing for the Empire.

well, we imp players are getting the aces first. i have played with printed up cards and they friggin rock!!!!

being able to give the named pilots 2 ship upgrades along with a pilot skill is huge. tie interceptor with stealth, armor upgrade and PLT!!!!! especial the dude who can use a bank for for his barrel roll!!!!highly mannuverable and fast with good firepower.

then you have the action killer pilot. man that guy really hurts the rebs.

i think we will see different balances, the imps are not getting a big ship.......yet. but we have the aces and i think that is good enough for now.

Wow... I'm really impressed, like it more...

Checking the bases of the CR its seems that there are 2 big ones and the one in the middles is like an small base, so the size of the ship is acceptable.

I wondering... no weapons no that thing so "Backstabber" will become "any-side-Stabber"? sweet :P

That makes as much sense as saying the Allies did not need merchantmen in WWII because they had battleships and/or carriers. ISDs can carry cargo, but they are warships first and foremost, and there are nowhere near enough of them to meet the logistical needs of a galaxy-spanning Empire even if they did not have a war to fight.

correct, the empire actually had a fleet of modular ships to suit several different situations.

they had medical

cargo

science

if you played WEG star wars rpg, they have the ships in the DARK EMPIRE source book

Here, take this... Now breathe slowly into the bag. Calm down, that's it...

Whew. Okay. Let's take a look at this actual undefeatable combo:

1. Total cost for what you suggest is 41, 45 if you include the Shield Booster. That's equivalent to almost 4 TIEs.

2. That's 45 points with no offensive output

3. Jamming to do damage via Slicer Tools is going to be HORRIBLY inefficient - Action to Jam, action to Slicer, then action to Recover, for a maximum of 1 point of damage to one ship. You can only Jam one target per turn, and only do 1 damage per stressed target, so...

5. In 3 turns, Chewie (comparably cost Falcon) has the potential for 9-12 damage, has 1 more hit point (in shields, at that) and 1 more agility.

Slicer Tools is scary, but more for what it's going to restrict your opponent from doing. Self-stressing ships are going to have a big issue. I'm starting to think someone at FFG has a serious hate on for the Interceptor, because this thing will BURY PtL Interceptors, which many players consider the only viable way to field them.

I have no doubt it's going to be an interesting bit of board control, but it's a long way from an "Imperials might as well just blow up the Death Star themselves" piece.

My guess is that it marks the ship as Epic.

Yeah, I'm sure that symbol in the name denotes Epic only. And it isn't Black Sun, it's that little lightsaber star thing that's been used a few times.

And without knowing the full rules for Epic, it's tough to say how bad a Transport will hurt Interceptors. Even with Recharge and staying a decent distance away (don't want to lose an Interceptor to a collision), Interceptors will start to tear into this ship quickly. Yeah, they won't use Push the Limit while it's up an running, but the Interceptors will provide firepower, whereas the Transport so far has very little offensive capabilities.

I think people are going to learn to k-turn out of range real quick like.

Seems like a flight of TIE bombers could vaporize a transport pretty quickly. Even a mob of TIEs firing at it could put a hurt on a 0-agility ship pretty quickly. It remains to be seen how efficient the whole energy system is and what all it can do, that will probably determine the strength of the ship more than anything.

I would be more concerned about the corvette, that thing has guns

So, I guess I'm the only person who has no interest in this blimp thing, but is looking forward to more X-wing pilots? I've never been a big fan cutesy scenarios like this Epic Play stuff (not much of a beer and pretzels player). As such, the prospect of paying $60 for an X-Wing is pretty brutal. I'll probably just have to do without. :(

tell you what, just sell the transport on ebay after you take all your xwing stuff from this set.

im sure there will be people looking for a 2nd ship, and would already have the xwing cards and tno need for duplicate named pilots. like me for instance, i wouldnt mind 2, but only need 1 xwing

I wouldn't call the Epic format a scenario, since FFG has stated that it will be a new tournament format.

Good point!

I missed that part!

and i noticed there are 4 ship cards, so that means 8 pilot cards for the x wing. wonder how many will be named pilots, i hope at least 4.
