Hosted Agenda Counter on Project Wotan

By Dungy2, in Android: Netrunner Rules Questions

My friend and I were playing tonight and I was using Project Wotan for the first time. Having scored it as an agenda I then placed my agenda counters on it and waited until a suitable time to move them to the razzed ice he was approaching.

Project Wotan reads:

Place 3 agenda counters on Project Wotan when you score it.
Hosted agenda counter: Choose a rezzed piece of bioroid ice currently being approached. For the remainder of this run, that ice gains "[subroutine] End the run." after all its other subroutines.

As he approached my Ichi 2.0, I wanted to move all 3 agenda counters to the razzed ice so it would now read:

The Runner can spend [Click] [Click] to break up to 2 subroutines on Ichi 2.0.
[subroutine] Trash 1 program.
[subroutine] Trash 1 program.

[subroutine] Trace 3 - If successful, give the Runner 1 tag and do 1 brain damage.

[subroutine] End the run.

[subroutine] End the run.

[subroutine] End the run.

Was this move allowed?

Or should I have been limited to moving only one hosted agenda counter from Project Wotan?

Totally allowed. There's no additional restriction on Wotan saying once per turn or anything similar. As long as you can pay the cost, you can use a paid ability as many times in a window as you like.

I'm guessing the runner either didn't break that Ichi, or he near-bankrupted himself :P

He did not break the run (thank god!!) he was running on my hand FULL of agendas and needed one agenda point to win. I too only needed one agenda point to win.. my next move scored for the romp to victory... well.. sort of... i'd already lost as runner previously... but still.. it was an enjoyable win for that round...

thanks for the clarification...

Here is another question. Are we sure it's end run at the end of the ICE

or is it end run after each subroutine. After all other subroutines, implies to me, that it would go

Trash

end

trash

end

trace

end

It's after all other subroutines

not after the last subroutine

If it added one for every subroutine it would say 'each subroutine' not 'all other subroutines'.

Sensei works the same way.

Does it matter? I thought you could break any subroutine...and any unbroken subroutines go off...therefore order wouldn't matter?

You can break any subroutine, but when you are resolving subroutines, you start from the top and work your way down. If "end the run" was first, the run would end and the other subroutines would not fire.

A good example of this it Tsurugi.

If none of the subroutines are broken, the corp can either end the run with no net damage, or pay 1 credit and let the runner continue, letting the "Do 1 net damage" subroutines fire.

It also matters for determining how much it costs to break the ICE.

Hey, I also have a question about Wotan. "Choose a rezzed piece of Bioroid ice currently being approached." Is there a window between ice being un-rezzed and approached, and rezzed and encountered, where you could use Wotan?

Cheers,

RD

The two windows to use the hosted power counters (paid abilities), as you describe would be in steps 2.3 (approach, rez and use Wotan) and 3.1 (encounter, use Wotan) of a run (see FAQ for updated timing structures).

It ONLY works at step 2.3 (currently being APPROACHED). However, the paid abiltiy and rez window are the same window, and the Corp can rez then spend the counter.
