Cursing someone who cannot be cursed

I think I'm more confused now than I was when the thread started.

Sorry. The confusion rests in the fact that the phrase "be cursed" could be taken to mean:

  • Receive a curse card (which will cancel out a blessing)
  • Actually BE the status of Cursed .

The debate in this thread is currently about the phrase, "you can't be cursed." Does that mean you can't be the status of Cursed (i.e. holding a cursed card), or does that mean that you can't receive a cursed card (which would cancel a blessing, if you had one).

For what it's worth, I believe it is the latter. If you have a special ability that says you can't be cursed, I think that that means you can't receive a curse card. So if you were blessed, you would stay blessed. If you were normal, you would not become cursed. If you were already cursed, not only would you not lose your curse status, but you would not replace your curse card with a new one (the only significance is that you wouldn't roll for a new one during the following upkeep).

The Blessing card says: "... If you are Cursed , discard this card instead of gaining a Curse card."

The rules say (p. 16): "If a Blessed investigator is Cursed, simply discard the Blessing."

So (my $0.02), since Wendy can't be cursed, she can't lose the Blessing via a curse. She can lose it by means other than rolling a 1 though. There's a green Dreamlands encounter card in CotDP and a Science Building encounter card in BGotW that cause Blessings to be discarded that don't mention being cursed.

I agree 100% on this--thanks for putting it in a much clearer fashion than I.

Also, good job on citing the blessing card's text. I haven't looked at that text since I first bought the game, and have forgotten that it said something other than "4s are successes and on a 1 it is dicarded during upkeep." Otherwise, that would have been good evidence to mention.
