What is your best XXBB fleet?

By DraconPyrothayan, in X-Wing

I'm starting this conversation because I'm a bit torn on how to spend the points. I have a few variations already in mind, but I want to get your suggestions in as well :D

Blue Thunder and Bloody Daggers are both well respected and venerable lists, having won many games.

Blue Thunder

2x Blue Squadron + HLC

2x Rookie Pilot

Bloody Daggers

2x Red Squadron

2x Dagger Squadron + Advanced Sensors

The only XXBB I have on my list to play is (besides BT & BD):

Luke

Rookie

Blue w/ AdvS x2

99pts

Thought would be that this is a relatively defensive list. Luke is 50% more defensive than a standard X wing, the Blues will get their action no matter what, and it's at 99 to help get init so the Rookie can get his too. The main goal would be to cause as many collisions as possible to action deny the enemy, and then return fire with my focus tokens.

Most of my lists have a Y or H in them. XBBH, XXYB, XYBB

I hold the ICT in high regard... What can I say.

Lately I've been running an XBBB with Biggs and 3 Blues with advanced sensors.

But for XXBB I would run a rookie, Biggs, and 2 Daggers with advanced.

I have been running aabxx. Having 5 rebel ships running around is always entertaining. I have ran the Blue Thunder a number of times, and it is quite good.

Actually AXBB

2xB Daggers HLC

A Prototype

X Rookie

Huh. Some of these I actually hadn't considered.

My current 5 are

  • Fleet 1 is the most mobile option of the lot, which allows me to be highly aggressive. All 4 ships are 25 points, which is a nice bonus for me.
  • Fleet 2 is the "Blue Thunder" that SableGryphon mentioned. I don't like the point disparity that much, though.
  • Fleet 3 trades the early aggression of Fleet 1 for better staying power in the X-Wings. Once again, all 4 ships are 25 points.
  • Fleet 4 is the "Bloody Daggers" that SableGryphon mentioned. I like it, but still don't like naked X-Wings.
  • Fleet 5 is a "Bloody Dagger" variation that arguably keeps the action economy in the B-Wings while improving the X-Wings

I played against Blue(x2) & Biggs & Wedge+Swarm tactics. Not a bad squad imo.

FCS+Ion instead of HLC's? sure point differences would be the same. but I just feel board control to be more useful than fire power. even Turrets Squads with their op arc attacks suffer in range 3; either they cannot shoot back or your both rolling extra D-Dice. and most turreted ships have relatively low Agility.

FCS+Ion is actually 2 less than HLC. I'd go with Adv. Sensors + Ion, and an R2 for the X-Wings.

Ionizing to get easier out of arc shots adds survivability to the list since your opponent won't be firing at you once they've been ionized and out maneuvered.

Sure 1 destroyed fighter for them is better than a sleeping one. but with 2 Ions there is the chance that you remove 2 ships from his battle plan. or change force them to change their plans to protect the 2 sleepers.

Also was thinking Autoblasters when doing the points math... but that it would free up 4 total points for a Torp or if you drop 1 down to FCS+Ion the other can have FCS+HLC.

(I've probably just on an Ion phase/craze... I'm still yet to ionize someone off the board for a kill which has been one of my goals for a while)

Hard to argue with

Biggs

Rookie

Bwing

Bwing

Or

Blue + advS x2

Rookie + enginex2

I'm more inclined to run Blue Garnet

Roark + blaster + recon

Rookie

Dagger + AdvS

Blue

12,4,4,2 firing with heavy firepower and some mobility has treated me well.

For bloody daggers, i'd take biggs + rookie (like paul did when he won world's) over red squadron x2 any day of the week.

Also the only list of all PS2 (rookies + blues) that i think can get away with it, is the sheer firepower of double HLCs. If you're not doing that, i think it's better to have the daggers with sensors + biggs, or even one build i haven't seen anyone say is :

blue + sensors x2

rookie

Wedge

Edited by bobbywhiskey

Everytime i run wedge with b wings he gets hit hard early.

i like:

roark+ ion turret=24

2x Blue+ AS=50

garven=26

100

I dont see why this wont be successful either;

2x blue + AS=50

Garven+astro=27

Rookie+astro=22

99

I ran to quite good effect the following:

2 x Dagger with Adv Sensors and HLC

Biggs with Stealth and R2D2

Actually AXBB

2xB Daggers HLC

A Prototype

X Rookie

Look fun to play!

How does it do on the field?

Garven

Rookie

Ibitsam + Adv Sensors

Blue squad
