I gotta say, this forum gets me to spend money on the most random things on this game...
Markers... Mats... Tackle boxes... Zinc washers and super glue.
I give up.

I really like this as well. Though, I would lean a bit more on the darker side of things. (dark green, dark red, etc.)
And fyi Michaels almost always has 40% off any single item coupons. Just check the website
Huh... could you use those markers to paint the figures with? Not that I won't be doing this for the tokens, but I'm curious if anyone is willing to try it.
I found that Michael's had those paint pens in extra fine too, so I got one to try in the target marker inside corners. That worked really well. The fine tip is still just a bit big for getting into those darn acute angles.
My ride's pimped for tomorrow night at Madness in Plano!
Very nice!
I already had all my asteroids, mines, and scenario tokens painted in black from the start of the game. I use acrylic tokens, so no need to paint those. I also painted black the inside of the 'dent' of my imperial dials, and dark red the inside of my rebel dials.
It is very funny, because people usually 'notice' that something is amiss, but they are not enough perceptive -on average- to discern what exactly is... Some people even ask me how I can discern at first glance which are my asteroids and dials, hehe.
Now that the secret has been disclosed, I guess I won't feel special anymore

Yeah,
I only got the fine point as I couldn't find a medium aqua pen on eBay.
The mediums seemed to flow better, but the fine got into the corners of the target locks easily.
I'd recommend mediums because they were much more easy to use.
Panic...

I agree, mediums are the way to go generally. I did all my range rulers, movement templates, ship chits, maneuver dials and tokens in about 3 hours last night.
I made the mistake of leaving the shield tokens for last. Bad idea. They've got a lot of fiddly angles and I was getting a little punchy, so they're the roughest paint job of the bunch, though the target locks are a close second.
If I had it to do over again, I'd save the big things, ie: range rulers and movement templates for last and do the fiddly tokens first. They look good though. I like 'em.

Our local group did something similar from the beginning. We quickly realized how easy it was to confuse each other's tokens. One of us (drkjedi35) had the idea to use black for all of his tokens, so naturally I did all mine (asteroids, maneuvers, tokens, dials.....) in red. Another did blue, another green. Haven't had any mix up issues since. Though now we'll probably all be back in the same boat again, lol
I've just started the process of painting my tokens. Although I've noticed that Michaels sells both Water-based and Oil-based Sharpie pens. They both produce a different hue and I'm having a hard time deciding which one I like more.
I've been building paper model terrain for over a decade, I base mine on mat board. This technique is known as edging and I did it the moment I bought my X-Wing fleets. Especially color coding the Target Locks. Glad to see it is not just me who does this.

I'd be worried the water-based paint might cause the cardboard to swell or separate. I stuck with oil-based.
yeah,

dude,
The original link was mine and I just selected the sharpies off eBay without much research.
I you opinion what's the best value pens for edging?
Panic...
I just used a whiteboard marker on mine, and the color seems to hold fine.
So I started doing this last night with whatever sharpies I had laying around, but found that it "bled" over to the front/back of the tokens. And they didn't look too good like that. Do you need to have the paint sharpies to do this properly?
I did mine a while back with a wide-tip Marks-a-Lot Marker. I haven't had any problems with bleed-through, but I did gloss coat all of my tokens first. That helps toughen the main surfaces.
I don't have trouble with bleeding, but I'm using the oil-based paint Sharpies.
Got some paint marker pens (unable to get the specific brand but they work well enough) and started doing this last night. They really look great although the idea of doing around 40 odd shield tokens is filling me with dread. I'm doing a couple of shield tokens each time, and then picking another token and smashing them out. Got about 20 evade tokens done and half a dozen shield tokens in 45 minutes.
I was listening to some vids on youtube while I did mine.. made the time fly.. I still have 20 odd shields left to do, but have 40 or so done.. and I need to start my focus tokens.. but those will fly by..
Just realised that the target lock tokens will be a pain in the arse to do since the tips on my pain pens are quite large. Might do them in black borders instead of Blue and Red and just us a marker pen to colour in the corners and use the paint pen for the easy access bits.
yeah,
the medium doesn't go the whole way in.
I had considered cutting it in half, but in the end just bought a thinner (fine tip) red marker.
Panic...

I think for the Target Locks, I might just break out the paint pots and paint them since I don't need to do lots of them.
I did my movement templates, 20 focus, evade, stress, and I did 10 ion tokens and 40 shield tokens. I found that I could add a few highlights to the minis to spruce them up a bit.
I used blue on the x-wing engines to give them a glow
I used red to tip the Y-wing lasers and green on the R2
I tried blue in the A-wing engines but I could not reach so I did the ring just outside
I did the engines on the Firespray in red and the guns in red
I tipped the guns on my shuttles in red
I did the red dots, at the center rear of the round fuselage, on my tie bombers
I did red dots on the center outside wings of my Tie Advanced
I tipped the 4 lasers on the wingtips of my tie advanced in green
I did have the 4 paint markers left over after all...

Wow, that's a really good idea! Could you post pictures? It would be great if you could, so people could see how it looks.
