Just saw this on DAKKA. I did my asteroids counters in black sharpie, and I have absolutely no idea why I didn't think to do the other counters like this.

You can also color code the target locks to make it easier to find pairs.

That's why I did all tokens in red instead of green for focus and blue for shields. So basically, I'm calling red.

I've done all my edges in red from the beginning too. I've also coloured the tops of each asteroid set, template set, and damage deck (on the face side, so as not to mark the back of the deck) in different colours. Since I run a lot of demo games and big scenario games where I'm providing materials for other players, this makes it a lot easier to make sure that full sets get put back together quickly and easily at the end of the day.

So, is your damage deck legal now? Someone a few weeks ago posted how he painted numbers on his pilot cards so he didn't have to use the chits anymore. And now you're color coding your deck to identify it as yours. But the tourney rules explicitly state that you cannot alter your cards at all.

I would really like to do the painted numbers on the generics, and errata my expert handling and daredevil cards, but I don't want to make them illegal for official tourney play.

I put black around all my asteroids from one set, and all my prox and bomb tokens, as well as one set of maneuver guides a few months back. If I'd habe know it would have gotten such reviews I might have mentioned it. I did mine so I could tell them from others sets with no comfusion. I think its a great idea, just found a nice red marker to do up a second set and red tokens. Also did some red and green around base counters.. red squad, Wedge, Luke and green squads accordingly.. just to differentiate.

Khyros, as long as there are no marksmon the back of the damage deck it should be legal, marking the front gives no way to tell the cards coming up.. so should be fine.

Glad to see so many are checking out that thread. I just wish I could of taken credit for the idea. But the guy who did come up with it really did come up with a simple but still very cool idea.

now you just need to play under a black light for more cool effects...

That's actually a really good idea. But I just ordered acrylics last night

Hah funny, i did the same a couple of days ago. And it works great... just make shure you have a semi-interesting tv show, it might take a while. (only the token, I already have acrylic movement and range finders)

I am also curious what tournament organization would say to my numbering of bases. Either way it won't really matter as I am,not a big tourney player.

It's not been a problem at any of the tournies I've played in. Marking the backs of the damage deck would be a real issue since that would be an actual 'marked deck' in terms of possibly knowing what the next card was going to be. Marking the facing side grants no unfair advantage. I've also always marked all of my pilot cards too. Even added pilot names to Red Squadron cards and ship tokens -- this does not alter any of the stats or rules for game play and so is not an issue.

I haven't made errata changes yet, but only because I haven't gotten around to them yet — I couldn't imagine any TO or opponent having a problem with that as long as it matches the errata exactly.

Numbering the base might not be an issue, as they might still ask you to use the number chits to meet tourney rules... and no harm done. Its a great idea for casual play and you always know your ships..

In the long run nothingnis changing the way the mechanics work.. just adding some flare to your pieces.. it gives you no advantage.. unless it totally demoralizes your opponent.. but then that's on him/her.. lol

I'm not the one who posted that on DakkaDakka, so I don't know what he did. I haven't even had time to try this myself.

I've seen people doing this with black markers, but the colors really make 'em pop.

I really like this as well. Though, I would lean a bit more on the darker side of things. (dark green, dark red, etc.)
