Possible tournament lists

By xevier77, in X-Wing

Wasnt sure where to put this, but I was thinking of entering in a 100 point tournament coming up. Here are some list that I am thinking of doing.

4x Tie academy pilots
1x Firespray Bounty Hunter
1x HowlRunner

or

1x Wedge not sure one the upgrades yet
1x Luke r2d2 shield upgrade
1x Biggs r2d5 stealth device for the 4 defense dice at range 1, 6 at 3 behind an asteroid.

or

1x Chewy with Millennium Faclon
1x Jan ors, recon specialist, blaster turret
1x biggs

I have some other ideas but these seem to be the ones i run the best. What do you guys think?

5 ties and a BH looks good,u could even drop off one academy and upgrade howlrunner and BH.

3x Tie academy pilots (36)
1x Kath Scarlet + Recon Specialist + Expert Handling (43)
1x Howlrunner + Swarm Tactics or PTL or Stealth Device (20/21)

Expert Handling (2)
Action: Perform a free barrel roll action. If you do not have the [barrel roll] action icon, receive 1 stress token. You may then remove 1 enemy target lock from your ship.

With that first Rebel list putting Draw Their Fire on Luke is often done allowing him to take Crits to his shield which R2D2 then fixes because people may otherwise leave him alone. In that same squad I assume you means R2F2 on Bigg; the chance at 4 defense dice is nice but it does cost.

With the last squad a basic Ion Turret is usually recommended for Jan so you do NEED an action just to be able to fire it. When her ability picks up stress that means you need to dump it and that makes your moves far more predictable which can get her into trouble.

I just played a couple games against a similar list to your second list. He swapped out Biggs for Garven, removing millenium falcon title. Garven provides great synergy to pass the focus to Chewy, while you buff Chewy with Jan. Lets Chewy have a TL + F shot with 4-5 dice. It is really great for taking down X wings, imo. Easily could 1 shot them. Not as great for Tie Swarms, but could still fair well if Chewy flies well!

1x Chewy with Millennium Faclon

1x Jan ors, recon specialist, blaster turret

1x biggs

I would put modly crow instead of recon on jan, so you can stock up on focus tokens.

Thats why you have recon specialist so you can use a focus to activate it and get another one if you need it during the shooting or have it for defense.

The reason biggs is there is to divert shots from chewy and jan so that you end up mid game with an untouched falcon flying around and possibly a jan ors too with good manuvering.

As I said above the moldy crow is nice and I would have it, but recon specialist lets me spend a focus to activate the blaster turret then gain another forucs for the shots of the turret or defense.

Stocking up on focus tokens is not as good as producing them when needed. The Recon Specialist basically counteracts the "Focus Required" nature of the Blaster Turret, leaving you one left over for offense/defense.

Moldy Crow is only better if you're not shooting more turns than you shoot, which means you've basically wasted a ship.

I realize the purpose of Recon Specialist on a HWK is so you can Focus and have one to use the Blaster Turret and one Focus for "normal" purposes. That's all fine and good when you can take the action. What happens after you use Jan's ability? She gets stressed. What happens when you are stressed? You can't take actions among other things. How do you get rid of Stress? Most of the time you make a green maneuver and that makes your move relatively predictable. What happens if you run into something when you move? You lose your action. If you know you will be getting your action RS+BT works but when you start throwing constant Stress into the equation and include the chance of blockers that becomes much less certain. Jan's ability really limits her maneuverability ESPECIALLY if you need to clear stress to put out good attacks.

A number of people have also "run the numbers" and against most possible targets an Ion Turret can average about what the Blaster Turret does for raw damage. For the Blaster to land more damage it needs at least two hits/crits which are not cancelled. The Ionizing effect of the Ion Turret can also be a big boon in some cases especially against those ships which are most likely to avoid the additional damage the Blaster could put out. You may run it as you want but Nien and an Ion Turret are good upgrades to run on Jan along with Determination in place of Recon+Blaster; you don't lose much damage but gain more maneuverability and possibly an effect that can NEGATE damage and other things which could ruin Jan's performance.

Now on the Crow vs. Recon discussion Recon will usually be the best bet there unless you are really slow playing things and are afraid you will not be able to take actions when you need them. As Dracon points to a "stack" of Focus tokens can disappear very quickly when you start needing them and may become impossible to replenish.

You are intirely correct in your assumption, however its a matter of sequence. Jan can always do green manuvers since she has a turret and has biggs to take the hits early game. Her ability goes off when someone else attacks. So you simply do a green manuver every turn she fires and the falcon fires 4 dice every turn while biggs takes the beating and basically hides behind asteroids.

We have gotten somewhat of topic. I was wonder which ones do you think are better towards a "all comers" list for tournaments.

Hey just came up with this list

2x bounty hunters with seismic charge and anti pursuit lasers

1x onmicron lambda with vader and anti pursuit lasers

Untested but sounds fun.
