[BALANCE] Fel's Wrath VS Royal Guard Pilot

By yaoull, in X-Wing

The dark side wins... confusion leads to fear, fear leads to anger, anger is the path to the dark side...

Um.. the Fel's Wrath pilot wins... um why you ask? Um... dude, the guy was flying Fel's wrath and fought you to a standstill... let the dude have the W.

But ya, if the best argument is, "he can be suicidal" you can have 2 academy pilots instead of him (basically) and have them do the same thing AND actually cause opponen'ts ships to lose actions instead of your own guy at ps 5 (who then WILL die).

Of course if they don't kill him one interceptor will consistently out damage two tie fighters. He's not supposed to be suicidal, he's supposed to be risky and i your face, but he should still avoid arcs if he can. Honestly people, just because he has the ability doesn't mean you want it to go off, it's a pure tier three insurance power, it allows for risks but shouldn't be what you expect to win for you. It just means that you make him the bit instead of someone else.

This argument about whether his ability triggers if he as a Direct Hit seems like one of those things I'd either get a tournament ruling from a judge, or just let slide as a "spirit of the card" thing in a friendly game. None of my friends are jerky enough to seriously fight about that sort of thing, so it'd be fine letting his ability trigger. Besides, I think there's an errata for the Direct Hit that says it counts as two damage cards.

You play it that way, me and the rest of the world will play it the way it is clearly intended to be played....

Um, I'm just pointing out what the rules say, no need to shoot the messenger? FWIW I frequently play with House Rules.

Yeah, most the people I play with are really casual and don't take the game too seriously to begin with, so it's not a big deal either way. I know one that absolutely would go with "Rules as Written", unless we specifically defined House Rules ahead of time. Incidentally he was the same guy that was flying Fel's Wrath when it got killed without firing a shot, so.... he's probably scarred for life and will never take the ship again anyway. :D

In a tournament, then obviously that's different. I don't see how a TO ruling is really needed, since it is black and white as written. I wonder if this has ever been an issue in a real tournament though, anywhere. Does anyone even play Fel's Wrath in tournaments? :P

Man, even if Fel's Wrath had Chewbacca's crit-ignorning as well, he'd still be unplayable for me.
