Well, someone went and made me convert my Y-wings . . .

I read a thread about using the lower turret on the YT-1300 for a Y-wing ion turret, but it just didn't feel right to me. Too wide, and not fine enough in detail.

But I knew I had the perfect part for the Y-wings turret in my warship parts box. It's an AA gun from a 1:700 scale battleship Iowa, and it just happens to be exactly the right size for the Y-wings gun. So I took two of those, added some pipes to either side of them, then took a submarine kit's prop shaft support tube and cut two sections out to serve as a mount. I glued the mounts to the cockpit, then glued the turrets on top and painted them. Simple little ten-minute project.

I then painted the cockpits and washed them in black. Here's the result:

I made mine out of pocket watch parts and a little bit of green stuff to make the shielding.

I really need to see if I can find some longer barreled turrets for my next two MF, I do like the way they look and think it would add a nice bit of variety.

If you want, I can simply send you some of the AA guns I have. I'm sure there are still around 50 or so in my bits box, and it could go in a standard letter envelop.

I've done it with 2x1 mm magnets but the turrets are ugly

I can't get any details on the gun barrels because I only have metal or plasticard sticks that are straight with the same diameter .... and too thin to further cut them :/ Any advice on how to give it more detail?
