Game Mat

By E11EVEN, in X-Wing

I am starting up a group in Sacramento, CA, and need a few low costing mats that can be used at my local game store.

- Is there a way to get paper mats like the ones they use for tournaments?

- Alternatives for low costing/easy-to-make mats.

Thanks all.

I use a 3x3 piece of cheap black fabric. Works great. Can splash some white spots on it for extra spaceyness

I use felt. It's great.

I use a 3x3 wooden board, not very portable but great for playing at my house.

For cheap paper mats, try a blueprint shop. Large format black-and-white printing is what's used for most house plans (blueprints). You want to have it printed on "white bond" (white paper) and it'll probably cost you about two bucks a sheet or less (American money). They may have other paper color choices (blue, canary yellow, pink are common).

Places like FedEx/Kinko's sometimes have a printer for that kind of thing, but check around for blueprint shops (search for "reprographics"). In a big city like Sacramento you should have no trouble locating one. Just bring in a PDF, JPG or TIF on a thumb drive and you're probably good to go.

I have used online banner-printing places with some success for vinyl mats. The price will be more like $25-$30 each but the mats will be durable.

Wal-Mart actually has a really nice star field fabric in their craft section.

This is what I have too. Cheap, light, and after my wifey hems the edges, it'll be plenty durable.

I recently bought a 3x3 vinyl mat from bannersonthecheap.com. About $15 and free shipping. Can't comment on the quality yet as I have not received it, but other reviews seem positive enough.

I made this on a B/W printer and hardboard.
