King of the Crystals - a custom FFA scenario

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

This is a new Free-For-All game type I'm trying to develop. The idea is that it isn't just a Free-for-all, but it also has objectives which add to the strategy.

Each player builds 2 squads. Each with a 35 point limit. One will be the "Primary Squad", one will be the "Backup Squad". If you have leftover points in the Primary Squad, they CAN carryover to the backup squad, IE Primary 32, Backup 38. Additionally, the primary squad cannot contain a large base ship, but the Backup may.

The idea is that there are 2 objectives on the map - Crystal Cubes. These objectives are placed by initiative order (IE player with the lowest army point total goes first, you roll for ties).

The Objective has 5 hull value and an agility value of 1. The player who gets the killing shot on an objective, immediately places his/her backup squad anywhere along the edge of the map - however it cannot DO anything this turn unless it has a passive that would somehow instantly affect the rest of the turn. It can however be fired upon the remainder of the turn.

If a player who has already summoned a backup squad is able to kill another crystal cube, then he/she instantly adds 2 shield tokens to every active ship he/she controls.

The idea here is that even with as little as 3 players, you might not have to attack each other right away, and instead go for the objective... which might be motivation for others to attack you.

The winner obviously would be the last ship still flying.

...Sombra?

What do the Crystal Cubes actually DO?

They let you summon your backup squad, or grant all ships +2 shields - or do you mean like... do they move? no they are basically like asteroids that you can blow up.

Clearly they are energon cubes... Shame on you mixing sci-fi universes and not telling anyone, though I guess there is plenty of precedent for transformers starwars now....

How bout holocrons?

Tesseracts?

First of all, they SO the crystals used to make lightsabers (Blue Lightsabers). i have a few questions , if you do not destroy a crystal but all your ships are destroyed. Does your second wave come out? Are the placing rules for the crystals the same as for astroids? What about +2 Shield rule, would that increase the max shields? Or would it just add to your pile? Possibly be a seprate shield pile for ships that they lose before other shield (Mostly thinking about R2-D2 with the shield questions). Lastly would there be faction restrictions (Could you mix ships).

Love your idea though sounds really fun!

Bacta Tanks!

For some reason, this reminds me of a combination of "Sinistar" and "Pacman."

EAT/SHOOT/ABSORB the POWERPELLET/CRYSTAL/UPGRADE!

First . . . lol! My thoughts exactly.

Second, I'm going to say they are capable of feeding off The Force and projecting a shield around a small country. ;)

If your ship(s) and you did not destroy a crystal, then you are out. There are deliberately less crystals than players so that only those who are able to finish off the crystal get the bonus of reinforcements.

Placement of the crystal is similar to asteroids but since you only have 2 only 2 players will get to place one, IE the players with the best initiative (Rolling for ties).

The +2 Shield is a temporary boost which can push a ship OVER the cap but does not raise his/her ACTUAL cap. IE if Luke Skywalker had R2D2 and had a cap of 2, he could in theory get 4 shields. If he then took 1 damage, R2 could NOT regenerate that shield because he is already over his cap. If Luke were then further reduced down to 1 shield, R2 would then be able to replenish 1 shield restoring Luke to his original cap. Similar rules apply to ships without shields. A TIE could get +2 shields from this rule, for example.

You could not mix ships. Although I love the idea of doing that - it would invoke a wealth of new strategies and would probably not best be suited by the spirit of this game type. If there were to be a game type that allowed you to mix ships, you'd have to consider the game-breaking possibilities, and balance a game type that complimented that format.

Good questions!

The crystals - they are actually Spacial Prisons which contain the souls of many Gungans. Thus destroying them earns you the favor of the force.

Thanks for the Replys on my questions, i really like this and i think i will use it!

Let me know how it goes. I'm going to try to use it soon, but it probably won't be this week since Sunday we are doing the Death Star II
