Thoughts on this imp build?

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

I havent tried it yet but I went through with what I have and for a 100 pt imp squad this is what I've come up with

Just wondering what the veterans think

Firespray -Kath scarlet

Stealth device

Mercenary Co pilot

Seismic charges

Veteran instincts

Ion cannon

Tie advanced - Darth Vader

Squad leader

Assaultmissles

Nightbeast

As I said haven't tried it but looks like it could be fun

Thoughts or suggestions?

Just got into this a few weeks ago so right now all I have is the core set, slave one, Falcon, and advanced tie fighter.

Hoping to get another X wing, Y wing, and tie fighter or maybe a bomber in a day or 2, so long as the store has them in

Edited by Krynn007

I recently flew a 2 Firespray list composed of Tanky Kath and Bouncy Bobba.

Kath + PTL + Stealth + Rebel Captive + Ion Cannon

Bobba + Expert Handling + Engine Upgrade + Navigator + Ion Cannon

It worked quite well especially if you can force them to shoot at Kath. I have been thinking of bringing the following:

Kath + PTL + Stealth + Flight Instructor.

Kagi + FCS + Rebel Captive + Intelligence Agent

Dark Curse + Stealth

Could be a whole lot of tanky and dodgy goodness.

Kath + Vader + Tie is...woefully under-manned for the Imperials. If I were facing this squad, I'd actively go for Kath first, because she's the only one bringing any form of firepower to bear.

Zoc, he doesn't have two Firesprays.

Krynn,

Assuming you've had some practice matches with just the core set, I'd drop those upgrades from Kath and buy another Tie Fighter. Extra ships are generally more powerful than upgrades: they give you more hit points, more attack, and the ability to clog lanes. Consider a list like this:

Darth Vader:
Squad Leader
Cluster Missiles

Kath Scarlet

Black Squadron Tie

Academy Tie

i actually like the loadout u have on Kath but agree with DP ur support ship/ships needs work.

i think u have 51pts left after kath eh?

two cheap intercpters would work pretty well. 2x sabres with PTL? 48pts

how about a plane Bounty Hunter with recon specialist? 36pts, leaves enough for a tie-fighter

even two cheapish bombers with missiles/bombs could work.

depends what u like playing.

Brown Bomber,

He doesn't have those ships. He only has a Core Set, Slave 1, Falcon, and Tie Advanced and that's more than enough to get started. We don't want to start telling new players that they need to buy hundreds of dollars worth of ships just to get into the game. It's a.) not true and b.) discouraging.

Well in hoping to get another tie fighter Thursday if they didn't sell out.

I can see where your getting at extra ships gets you more bang for your buck over upgrades.

I didn't think flying with hardly any upgrades would be a wise choice

As I mentioned I have

Core set

Falcon

Advance tie

Slave one

I figure next buy will be, X wing, tie fighter, and, Y wing, and after that, bomber, b wing, and interceptor

Unless you guys highly recommend something else should take priority

Next 2 weeks I should have about 6-8 more ships

Is there a link or page somewhere that shows all upgrades each ship comes with and what they do?

I see alotof mention on some upgrades but haven't bought the corresponding ships yet

Baron F- Apologies if u felt i was being discouraging. I thought i was being helpful ;) imo u need to take anything people suggest with a grain of salt and remember it is only a suggestion. You always have choices and options (K007 just doesnt have that many right now based on his current collection of ships).

Just wondering what the veterans think

suggests he wanted ppl to give some input, so i have.

I agree u dont need to go out an buy lots of new ships, especially if u r a casual player. ppl play this game for different reasons, sometimes i forget that players dont have the necessary funds to buy lots of ships and play this game at full power. smart new players will plan ahead and see what they MIGHT want to buy in the future - ist wise to ask other ppl first b4 rushing out and buying something thats not what u wanted, right? i mean he will likely buy more ships eventually.

Baron F- In my previous post i have given K007 some options about what he could use.

K007, have u thought of borrowing ships? that way its cheaper for new players to try b4 they buy?

what about running proxies? those bombers i suggested in my previous post could be proxied up what the ships you already own.

If you get a third Tie that'll help a lot mainly because one pilot is Howlrunner, and she lets others within range one of her reroll an attack die. I'd say to try to get Mauler Mithel in there if they were all small ships, but I think you do want those upgrades.

Kath, Darth, and two academies should put you at 91 points.

Put marksman on Kath, since that action will let you get crits through to bring out her special ability.

Then you should have 6 points left over to add swarm tactics and a concussion missile to Vader.

Go here for the pack contents, under the products tab:

As far as what to get next, I'd say a second core and an X-wing and Tie expansion for the pilots. It's not as fancy as some others, but you get enough to start playing with combinations of the core fighters, especially the different Tie pilots like Backstabber and Dark Curse. Darth and a group of ties can be quite good, and you can then do 3 elite X-wings or run the 2 X-wing + Han build, Han shoots first, which is great for learning and very competitive. If you're still in after that, a Y-wing. One of my favorites is just to run 3 X-wings and a Y-wing, the Yavin Squad: which is Biggs, Garven, Dutch in a Y-wing with an ion turret, and a rookie X-wing. It's simple and fun.

I really appreciate all the advice everyone

I do plan on picking up another core set, but first wanted to get a few other ships like Y wings and the extra tie and X wing for the upgrades and abilities.

With wife and kids I can't spend as much as some maybe but buying a few ships a week is no problem

I don't have any ships to borrow cause I'm the first in my group to get this game and now others are hoping on.

And hey no worries brown bomber, any advice is good advice

I thought using a ships abilities to its fullest potential would be best, but I see what others mean by having power in numbers

So some recommend another core set before getting other ships like the Y,b wing, and bomber, interceptor?

I know for sure another X wing and tie is in the near future but thought some other ships I didn't have would open up more cards and options

Although Kath has 2 Agility I'm not sure a Stealth Device is going to be worth the points. Kath is the #1 target which means it is likely to be blown off early. Now the Stealth Device on Vader could certainly make things painful. I guess the idea behind the Kath, Ion, Merc combo is to get a crit result at range 3 via the Merc, see that cancelled to stress the target via Kath, and then Ionize the ship so that it can fly off the board. I'm not entirely sure how well that will work in part because it may take some time to walk a ship off and it ties up Kath during that time.

I'd guess your best squads would be some version of Slave 1, Vader, and a pair of T/F although how you trick everything out can allow for variety.

Ya I'm in East coast Canada and only one place to buy where I live and it more expansive than the states or online shops

Core set -42

Large ships -32

Small ships -17

Buying online is cheaper but after shipping and having to wait not worth it Imo

Don't break the bank! When I started out I played some smaller games to learn it all, so unless you need to do tournament matches experiment with what you've got. I think the imperial squad you could build would be pretty solid, and if you kit out Luke with R2D2 and a Shield upgrade he could go well with Han. Try different combos and see what you like, especially since once you start building up a bigger collection you might not play with some again. I've never used Winged Gundark, for example, and I pity him. You will want Wedge/Garvin in the X-wing and Howlrunner, Backstabber, and Dark Curse in the Tie pack someday though. Those start giving you a lot of options to play around with. But there's no reason not to fly 60 or 80 point games! If you're playing with a group most people should be decent enough to spot you a ship or let you see if you like something.

Don't ever get a second Tie Advanced though, since everything it can do other ships do better. I almost made this mistake. Vader is awesome and worth every penny, but Marek isn't very good and the generics are too expensive point-wise. Boba should be awesome but I haven't seen anyone play him. There was talk about combining him with the navigator from the shuttle expansion but I haven't heard how that panned out. Kath and Krassis are both a lot of fun though. Also, putting stealth on Darth makes him **** hard to kill. Once he shoots his missile he's not as good offensively, but can be a frustrating pest to mess up your enemy.

"Fettigator" turns your entire dial into a simple 5 choices: Do I go straight, bank, turn left, turn right, or koiogran? The actual distance, and the direction for the banks, are left to your discretion once you see the board.

However, it should be noted that Boba Fett's ability doesn't actually add THAT MUCH to this system. Dude seriously got shafted.

I prefer Navigator on a YT-1300, alongside some Anti-Pursuits and an Intelligence Agent. At 33 points on an Outer-Rim Smuggler, running 3 is a dastardly fleet.

I would love to do tourneys but there are none near where I live

In going to try to find other players outside the group of friends I play with that also own this game

Plus I'm going to talk to the guy who owns the store and see if some kind of local tournament could be organized, all depending though, or maybe start a league or something

I've been collecting vintage and new star wars /transformer toys so when I saw this the detail caught my eye, and I always wanted to buy just for the detail, and I was curious how to play so I looked it up on you tube and was surprised to see how popular this was, as there are all kinds of games that come and go

I was going through the link above and well all ships are a must but I'll aim for. Another xwing, tie fighter, Y wing and bomber, b wing, shuttle and core pack probably in that order

In about a month I'll probably be able to stay buying doubles of ships like Y wings and and interceptor

Any idea when the imperial aces comes out

They look bloody sweet!!
