My Rebel Squad

By cybercat07, in X-Wing

Hey everybody,

I'm relatively new to X-wing, but I got hooked. Unfortunately funds are a little low, and I've got 7 ships total:

1 A-Wing

2 X-Wings

2 Tie Fighters

1 Tie Interceptor

1 Tie Advanced

Basically I've been toying with the best possible build for rebels; in hopes that I could enter a tournament with a solid roster of 100 points. After looking on the lovely internet, I've seen a lot of hate for the A-Wing, but I just think it's too cool to give up. My favorite squad to run right now is:

Tycho Celchu + Push the Limit

Wedge Antilles + R5-K6 + Proton Torpedoes

Luke Skywalker + R2-D2 + Proton Torpedoes

I played the other day with one of my friends and it seemed to work really well. Except for a few bad dice rolls, he was annihilated and I didn't even get hull damage (some shields went down though). I do have to admit though, my friend was not helping himself strategically.

He actually spread out all of his ships nice and easy for me, but I was able to keep Wedge and Luke together, while having Tycho pinch off the opponents from the other side. Tycho was awesome because he was able to get into range 1 VERY quickly and blast apart a few people by target locking and focusing, but I'm not sure how these three would hold up against a better player.

What do you all think, could this be improved or is this a bad list?

ur list looks fine. once u get a few more ships ur options will open up.

for imperials id say u need at least 2 more tie-fighters or one more tie-fighter and one more intercepter to move up to 100pts. A Firespary would also open up ur options considerably in terms of making 100pt squads and more cool upgrades like stealth device and shield upgrade.

Ur rebel collection needs a few more ships also - id say a B-Wing or even two, another X-Wing and perhaps a Y-Wing. If u go with a fiespray then u might consider getting a falcon as well but imo stay with the small base ships for now.

It can be improved, but not necessarily with the stuff you've got. Most of my suggestions are "Add a 4th ship".
I'd consider dropping one of the protons to give Tycho a missile, or possibly both of them to get more permanent bonuses.

I'd definitely try to kill Wedge first in this fleet. He's simultaneously your most damaging, most fragile, and costliest ship.

like the others said save up some money and get a fourth ship. drop r5k6 as his ability is too glitchy. im assuming you have the expansion pack since you are running wedge. Keep in mind wedge will have a huge target on his back so you need to strike early. i would keep PTL on the a-wing but put lukes prton torp on the awing as well. that way he can sprint up there and relase the torpedo from a flank while your xwings go up the gut.

Thanks for the help everyone! Definitely made me question my thought process on this...I want to be able to create a solid team that I can use for competitive play without breaking bank and buying every ship (some of them I just don't like). If I can, I would really like to keep my competitive squad down to A-wings and X-wings... I thought doing a swarm would be cool, but then that would mean virtually no upgrades for any ship. But on the other hand, if I want to use any of the top pilots like Tycho or Wedge, that means I'll have two low pilots to accompany them...decisions, decisions.

It seems like you're both suggesting the same thing here...so I strip Luke of the torpedo, and give Tycho a missle? I was thinking cluster missiles would be very effective, especially against a swarm? And if I should get r5k6 off of Wedge, should I give him R2D2 then?

I see that a few new ships would be ideal, but what would help the most? I'm not sold on the B-wings but I might consider a Y wing in the future. I definitely am purchasing another X wing, and possibly another A (to try out my 5 ship swarm idea). I guess I'm kind of at the point where I want to know if I need to cut Luke loose in order to get a few more ships?

BBBAA is one of the top rebel swarms lists right now. thats a few extra ships to buy tho.

you might consider XXXAA leaves 3pts for upgrades.

Semi-off topic, have you heard off anyone trying to swarm 2x Rebel Operatives with ion turrets, 2 Prototype A-Wings, and a Dagger Squadron B-Wing?

Cluster missiles are terrible . Yes, you're technically rolling 6 dice of damage, but remember, they're rolling 2x their Agility Dice against you.

Concussions are the way to go for a 4 point missile. When you're focused, you have a 90-something percent chance to roll 4 damage (before their Agility Dice cancel anything).

If you can somehow afford a 5th point for your missile, get Assaults. THAT is actually good against a swarm, or really, anything that can out-number you. Free damage is always good.

As far as "New Ships", all of them are valid (except a 2nd A-Wing). For a new player, though, I'd suggest a YT-1300 (the Millennium Falcon). It's a beast!

nope. thats a new one for me.

I might try it sometime, when I have the time to experiment.
