First Game with your Imperial aces

By berusplants, in X-Wing

Most of us are looking forward to the arrival of the imperial aces no doubt, and I know there have been various discussions of the pilots that come with the set. My question is now we know whats in the pack and the ships you already have, what will be the very first squad you wanna try with your fancy new squints?

So far I'm thinking;

Royal Guard pilot with ptl.

Tetran Cowell with VI

Lieutenant Lorrir

Captain Yorr.

I will only buy one set of Aces, at least first off, and I have only one normal squint. Lorrir will get the normal squint. Figuring Yorr's destressing will be handy to both Tetran and Lorrir. Cant wait to try out Lorrir and Tetran's crazy moves.

Btw I know this squad is only 97. Might stick the hull upgrade on one of the ships just to use it. Like Adv sensors on the shuttle, but I guess if hes always stressed it wont be so great. Maybe Vader so he can do damage early and leave the scraps for the squints. Could use another ship entirely, but squints seem to go with shuttle somehow and I just love playing the Fat Seagull of space.

So, got your first game aces figured out yet?

Royal Guard Pilot + Royal Guard TIE + Shield Up. + Hull Up. (29)
Royal Guard Pilot + Royal Guard TIE + Shield Up. + Hull Up. (29)
Royal Guard Pilot + Royal Guard TIE + Shield Up. + Hull Up. (29)
Academy Pilot (12)

Alternately, because I'm out of my mind:

Darth Vader + Squad Leader + Shield Upgrade (35)
Kir Kanos + Royal Guard TIE + Shield Upgrade + Hull Upgrade (31)
Howlrunner + Shield Upgrade (22)
Academy Pilot (12)

Kir Kanos is the main event. Vader and Howlrunner are here only to boost Kanos and make him better. The Academy Pilot is an extra set of guns because I have the room for him. This can never win, but I want to do it anyway.

Royal Guard Pilot + Royal Guard TIE + Shield Up. + Hull Up. (29)

Royal Guard Pilot + Royal Guard TIE + Shield Up. + Hull Up. (29)

Royal Guard Pilot + Royal Guard TIE + Shield Up. + Hull Up. (29)

Academy Pilot (12)

So do you plan to get 2 sets? If you do 4Royals with ptl would be pretty strong.

Soontir with Determination, Turr and Tetran with Veteran Instincts, all carrying Royal Guard TIE, Shield Upgrade, and Hull Upgrade... yay all PS9 3/3/4/1 fighters

you could give one of them Targeting Computer and come in at 99 for Initiatives sake.

I could have sworn there was another topic on this a few weeks back...

Anyway, here's what I'll roll with:

4x Royal Guard Ties with PTL

3x Saber Squadron with PTL and Turr with PTL

789 Turr, Jax and Fel with PTL/Stealth, RGT upgrade on Fel just for Targeting Computer

Edited by HERO

Cowall + stealth + PTL

Saber + stealth + PTL

Kir+ stealth

Backstabber

1-1 so far. Stealth devises aren't helping!

So far?? But they haven't been released yet.

Sorry, sure there have been plenty of similar threads but I was going for that just out of the box let's play with new things anticipation.

Soontir with Determination

Hadn't thought about using the targeting comp but maybe I should, although perhaps only on craft with PTL as without it TL doesn't offer much upgrade on focus does it? Also for as ship that already has 4 actions and no missiles how much use would it be? Having said that it could be monster on Fel.

Don't mind my stupidity :)

Howlrunner + Determination
Carnor Jax + Determination
Alpha Squad X3

Off topic question but could you put 2 Stealth Devices on a Royal Guard tie? Letting the ship have 6 evade dice at range 3! This is most likely not going to be legal, but if it is how about this squad!

RGT title is "two different modifications" - so no.

Ok thanks

Soontir with Determination

I only had the one point and only Soontir had an open slot, and it was his EPT. I didn't want to use veteran instincts because of the 3 PS9 pilot thing, so I looked at the other options...

Adrenaline Rush would negate Soontir's pilot ability for a round, which may be useful if I needed to barrel roll/boost/evade out of a K-turn, but most of the time focus is fine; Deadeye is completely useless; Draw Their Fire is a dumb idea on an interceptor list; and VI I already talked about

Soontir has a chance at actually taking a pilot crit and suriving, especially since he now has 4 hull vice 3, and a shield to eat the first hit off a huge damage roll.

Im excited to use the "expose" card

THats something you dont often hear.

Seriously though, its not in the Imperial aces pack is it? If you have firespray you already have it.

I meant Opportunist...my bad

Gotcha. Yeah me too, could be great on either the RGI or a Saber. 4 dice with focus from range. Nice.

Opportunist, for when you want the Unholy 7 attack - that has a good chance of dealing 7 damage....

Jan + wedge + Opportunist + APT... - just need that focus and TL stack - BOOOOM

Edited by Ravncat

Opportunist isn't the best good on Wedge because being at PS9 he shoots first and thus targets still have their Focus Tokens. It is better on lower PS pilots for the very reason that they shoot toward the end of the combat phase. In that configuration you could not fit in Han, but maybe Luke with VI to shoot first? But also would ever put APT on Wedge without PTL?

I will likely give this oppurtunist list a go:

Howlrunner + Determination + Hull Upgrade

Royal Guard Pilot + Oppurtunist + Shield Upgrade + Hull Upgrade

Black Squadron Pilot + Vet. Instincts

Black Squadron Pilot + Vet. Instincts

Black Squadron Pilot + Vet. Instincts

100pts

Just a 5 ship PS 6 Swarm. Similar firepower to the 6 ship PS 6 swarm, but one attack could get 4/5 dice! Should make it at least more interesting to play.

I also like the idea of combining Determination and Hull Upgrade on Howl. You get that 1 more Hull with which you can use Determination to discard a pilot crit.
