Does personal combat feel like nerf tag for you? I find combat very fast and decisive. I can slow it down, for sure, by using more minions with smaller guns, but I like the feel I'm getting now. I don't agree with that assessment at all. (I also have a 5 Agility Hired Gun.... so possibly a contributing factor)
Episode 25 of the Order 66 Podcast is UP! Starship Combat with Sam Stewart...
Personal combat has weapons that typically do 6 to 9 damage against targets with 3-5 Soak and 12-18 WT. Combats tend to have multiple targets to absorb the damage output, and stimpacks can rapidly reduce Wounds taken (not to mention what a trained Doctor can do). With some effort, it's possible to take certain characters up to 8+ Soak, and at that level, many of the common encounters barely hurt.
Starship combat has weapons that typically do 5 to 9 damage against targets with 3-5 Armor and 12-30 HTT. Combats tend to have far fewer targets to absorb the damage output, and repairing the ship in combat is pretty limited. It's pretty hard to get Armor above 6, and Concussion Missiles are fairly common.
Between the two, starship combat has been far deadlier in my games.

Yeah, in a relative sense, I can see where you're coming from. I just got the impression you didn't mean that as a relative statement and thought personal combat felt like nerf tag in general, which I don't agree with.
To add to your comparison, I'll also say that defensive talents (while relatively rare in the first place) are more rare for starships than for personal combat. I can only think of Defensive Driving and Brilliant Evasion (AFB).
Not to mention, repairing your ship is tons more expensive compared to fixing your PC. So, if you have a battle where your ship takes heavy damage, it might be awhile before you have the money to get it fixed. So, if you take your beaten-up ship into another combat, it's just going to go that much more badly for you.

Oh yes. It's amazing that several people can be healed from multiple blaster and vibroknife wounds moments after combat is over with minimal cost supplies while fixing any damage to the ship beyond one Mechanics check takes a nebulous amount of time and a heaping pile of credits. So, financially speaking, personal combat is again Nerf tag compared to vehicular combat.

In a setting where bacta both exists and is affordable, this surprises you?

I'm not even talking about using Bacta, just a medpac and some stimpacks. What surprises me is that droids are almost as easy to repair with emergency repair patches but no upscaled versions are available for slapping onto damaged starships.
So, after (not) listening to Episode 25 of the Order 66 Podcast (featuring Sam Stewart), I'm a little confused about the Starship/Vehicle Maneuver called "Punch It".
The description of the maneuver in the EotE Core Rulebook states that it causes 1 System Strain per point of Speed increased. The example in the book verifies this (ship going from 0 to 3 takes 3 strain).
In the podcast, a ship went from 1 to 4 using Punch It and GM Chris said that caused 2 System Strain. Sam Stewart did not contradict this statement. Was that just a slip up?

Yes it was a slip up
Thanks for a great episode, guys! The first time I ran vehicle combat, it fell flat on the table. Since then I have dreaded the next vehicle encounter. This episode laid it all out for me in a very attractive package *blush.* So now I am making many preparations in anticipation of what might come down the pipes for my motley crew of fringe misfits.
I don't listen to your podcast, so stop putting out such great stuff.
I don't listen to your podcast...
Can we puh-leeease stop flogging this dead joke? :-/
Doubt it. It's a sort of trade mark ... don't know for how long its been around, but probably since around the start, some 5 or 6 years ago...

Did you (not) listen to the example combat in the podcast?
I thought the way they handled tracking facing made a lot of sense. It was a little more specific than described by the rules as written, but it was natural and logical.
They just kinda kept aware of which direction the ship was facing, rather than tracking it specifically based on a compass grid or something.
"We're trying to escape from those ships so we're facing away from them."
"Let's turn and face the ships so we can fire our torpedoes, instead of trying to escape from them."
That kinda thing. I thought it was well done.
I don't like it, that's why I asked in about it. I think saying you can't move away and fire forward facing weapons at the ship you are flying away from in the same turn makes sense, but I don't like costing the pilot a maneuver to turn the ship back around. It just doesn't work for me. Your ship is always moving, you explicitly don't need to track each movement. If a player tells he's facing his opponent and nothing has happened that stops that from making narrative sense, I believe him.
Well, there you go then. That's more or less how the rules are written, making it more abstract and narrative.
I think on the example they just felt like getting a little more detailed with it, but if the way you described (which seems to me to be as intended in the RAW) works for you, go with it.
Now they should do an O66 example of a space bombat sequence using the chase rules too ![]()

When Sam suggested making a run for it, I assumed that was to showcase chase rules as well as vehicle combat.
Yeah, I thought so too, but that would've made the example a chase example, and not so much a pure space combat example. Sadly. ![]()
Does anyone know where I can download podcasts 1-10? On the webpage I see only from 11 to 25 - http://start.d20radio.com/home/the-order-66-podcast

Thx man!
Follwing on my previous comment- go ahead and do whatever you want with your podcast, I'll not be listening any longer. Just one quick question before I forget about your show- Sexist and racist much?
Part of me really doesn't want to get into this, but I have learned a lot and had a lot of enjoyment from the Order 66 podcast and I respect the people who make it.
What is your problem with them?
I admit I'm a relatively new listener but I've listened to maybe 8 or 10 of the episodes in the EOTE series and I am really not hearing whatever it is that offends you so much.
Those are harsh charges to level, and I don't see any justification for them.
What is you're hearing that is so offensive to you?
