Now with his wording
Chewbacca
I'm assuming you're talking about the Pilot. He is never DEALT a crit. However, he can still be critted from saboteur.

Am I correct in thinking that Vader Crew would also cause a crit on Chewy?

After you perform an attack against an enemy ship, you may suffer 2 damage to cause that ship to suffer 1 critical damage.
Edited by GroggyGolemVader vs. Chewie is just like an uncancelled (not evaded) [crit] result happens. It can hit shields. If it doesn't hit a shield then it would cause a face up damage card to be dealt to Chewie who immediate turns it face down without doing anything with it.
The trick there is the wording. Vader says "to cause that ship to suffer 1 critical damage," emphasis mine.
That's the word to watch out for, 'suffer,' because whenever they use that it falls under the rules on page about Suffering Damage, and follows those steps.
The steps in order are Reduce Shields, then if there are no shields, Damage Hull. Since Vader causes you to suffer a critical damage, it's the same as if a critical hit result was rolled. You check for shields, and either remove a shield, OR, if there are no shields left, deal a face-up damage card. But in Chewbacca's case, his ability then kicks in and flips the face-up damage face down before it gets resolved.
Just to cover all the bases. Proton bombs wouldn't cause a crit to Chewie (pilot) either. Since it deals one face up card, which Chewie would turn over and suffer 1 normal damage. It would still bypass shields though.
I haven't spotted it anywhere else, and sorry if I have missed it but if you use 'Draw Their Fire' with Chewbacca does his ability make it just a regular hit?

Yes, because under 'Draw their fire' the ship SUFFERS one uncancelled critical hit in place of the defender.
Again, the keyword is 'suffer' which binds us to follow the 'suffering damage' protocol, which ends in dealing a card face up (assuming no shields present) that will be instantly flipped face down by Chewbacca,
