Couple of Questions

By Jock, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Had my 3rd batch of x-wing games over the weekend and just had a couple of questions.

- My opponent didnt want to use asteroids and in the rules it says both players have to agree if you want to use them. I assume in tournament games its not an option, and you have them in every game? I'd like to think i'll find a group and maybe get to a tournament sometime so would rather play with the rules i'll see there mostly.

Would i be correct in assuming that if you did play with no asteroids it would give the imperial swarm a fair old advantage?

- I know if youre doing a k-turn and you'd overlap another ship, you do a straight instead, but if you end up on top of an asteroid, do you actually complete the k-turn but just have the downsides of the asteroid such as no shooting, no action and roll for damage?

Was quite lucky this weekend, in one game i fired into the middle of a 7 tie swarm with assault missiles and only got 1 hit, he had focus so only thing that would have killed him was blanks, and lo and behold he got 3 blanks so all ties got hit.

On that note, the hit that carries over to all those within range 1, am i correct in thinking theres no way to save that damage?

Thoroughly enjoying the game so far.

First question, Asteroids. Yes, the rules do say "both players can agree to use obstacles..." so it appears both have to say yes. It does tend to give the Imperial player an advantage, but primarily with regard to TIE swarms, which are generally harder to maneuver in and around asteroids than a smaller force.

Second question, K-turns on asteroids. In the section on Obstacles, it says you complete the maneuver as normal, so I would say you do complete the K-Turn, then resolve the asteroid damage. I hadn't noticed that it was different for obstacles. Interesting.

Last question on Assault missile splash damage, correct. It is not evadable. Note also that suffering that splash damage does not constitute being "hit" for purposes of losing stealth devices.

Thanks, though do you know what the score is with tournaments and asteroids? I'm assuming they are mandatory or else swarms would just always not agree to them.

Asteroids are mandatory with the current tournament rules (and are likely to remain mandatory). You can find the tournament rules here.
