So I have had amazing success with Chewbacca with MF Title Card, Luke Skywalker and Expert Handling.

I also have been using 2 blue squadron with FCS on each.

What I want to do is introduce an ion cannon to the mix.

So My question is should I go

Roark Garnet with Ion Turret

Gold Squadron with Ion Turret and R2

or something else completely.

In the current meta you must be able to take a pounding and keep on going. So if its not a tough build it will be no good. Thanks in advance.

I would go with Gold Squadron, and then with the 1 extra point put Nien Numb on the falcon. I LOVE the HWK it's one of my very favorite ships. But being you mostly want a Ion Turret, the Extra attack dice, K-Turn, 2 shields and 1 Hull + 1 point Vs. 1 Extra Defence dice and the PS and ability, it's hands down Gold Squadron. But that's just my take on it if you really want the Ion Turret.

I agree, and would go with the Y-Wing. But then I just love Y-Wings and support everybody using them.

I think the supirior dial of the y-wing would make it a better ion platform, Roark letting you're damage dealers get an early attack in is always nice though, especially with a low skill elite like chewie and a lowest skill generic. But if you really wanted to keep your list as close as possibly, drop one FCS and, probably expert handling since it's a bit situational, give the three point ion to a blue, I'd recommend the one that still had fcs since it would let it set itself up for a nasty one-two punch, and then use the last point for something else.
