Starfield game tiles kit

By JediJF, in X-Wing

Hi, pretty new around here. I didn't notice any updates and I apologize if this topics has been covered lately but anyone knows what happened to the Starfield game tile kit that was announced last April? It was suppose to come out last year but now it seems to be under the radar... Anyone knows?

I think it went indefinitely back to er... be redeveloped.

FFG happened.

Some say it's still being developed to this day...

Personally, I gave up and cancelled my preorder for the tiles. I'll snag a game mat when I can.

Someone broke the first rule of Starfield game tiles kit club.

They havn't removed it from the site, there's still hope.

I am wondering if they will find a way to keep the tiles stable with each other, though I would build a frame to keep everything secure if they didn't. I would buy two of these.

My biggest no sale for almost half a year on X-Wing was lack of playing surface released with the original starter. FFG has some pretty fantastic boards, I was always surprised that this game didn't come with at least 6-12 ships, optional star maps and whatnot, priced more like larger games were. It was a pretty smallish release compared to other FFG games. Later when I had conversations with people more in the know I found out that they didn't have the board game rights, only the card and miniature, so they couldn't technically release it as a board game, which I found strange but amusing and made sense. In the end the fans of the game and the enthusiasm for it made me buy in, I don't regret it, and there are many playing board options out there.

This could be on hold for several reasons, maybe we'll never see it released, but I for one hope they do. Two sets would give you tons of play options, from asteroid fields to just deep space, beginnings of Deathstar runs, to planetary defense.

Agreed

Personally, i like the tiles idea, portable and you can custimize it.

I am seriously that pissed of at FFGs supply rates or in this case no show rate, that I am suspending purchase of any of there products....I'll move my focus back to my WWII 28mm Bolt Action gaming. FFG have just shown they can't meet market supply or expectation.

Well that was a sudden outburst.

But around here we just call it The Stig!

This level of flounce over the Starfield kit?

I mean, I thought it was a cool idea, too, but...

I have the mousepad one from mini market. It works alright, could be better.

Word around the ffg Game Center is that the tiles were super slick and could not get the finish on the tiles right, and that it could be a long while before we see them out. But that just means that like the minis we wait and see if they show up some day.

Actually the mousepad ones are kind of a pain, I hope they don't go that route. They're very slick (mousepads aren't designed to PREVENT the mouse from moving around, after all) and spongy, which makes it easy to tip stuff over if you put weight on it (like putting a hand on the table while leaning over to look at something).

I don't know why the zombie tiles refuse to die. From everything I've heard, those are just straight up no longer happening, in which case I'm sure FFG will roll out some mats of their own at some point. Probably in a couple of different sizes, quite possibly around the time that the Transport comes out - total speculation, but if Epic or Cinematic play changes the size of the play area it would give them a nice window to cash in on having the first mats on the market in the new size.

Trolls must be hungry...

Look at the bright side - that is one less person putting a strain on the market supply.

Dude, take a pill. Or three. That is precisely one product in the X-wing line that was a no-show. They tried it, didn't work out, sounds like they're going a different direction and probably don't want to announce anything until they know it'll work precisely because of this debacle . That's called learning from your mistakes. That's not a bad thing.

They also did meet market demand, just a little late. You're really going to blame them for not grossly OVERestimating the market demand for their game, cranking out hundreds of thousands of minis more than they estimated they could sell? Again, mister shot-glass-is-half-empty, that's a good thing; it means the game is growing faster than their projections. Was it a headache in the short term? Yeah, of course it was a pain in the ass for all of us.

They were caught off guard, they scrambled to crank up production to meet demand, and finally did so fairly recently. You can bet they'll be adjusting their estimates upward for each new product coming out now, which - wait a SECOND - could explain why some of this stuff is taking longer than expected . What a wacky concept; people were mad they didn't make enough of everything to meet demand, so they're holding off on new releases while making sure they have enough stockpiled to not get caught with their pants down next time. Crazy.
