Grinner

By Inquisitor Tremayne, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I am introducing Grinner to my game since my players are essentially bumbling fools and can't figure out how to do anything. So I am setting him up as their mentor who has taken an interest in them since they dealt with Teemo the Hutt.

Here is my intro of him:

After a short while the cantina doors open and a handsome, old, scruffy-looking spacer saunters in. It is obvious he has seen his share of adventure and lived to tell about it. He wears a deep blue heavy jacket, with a carelessly dishelved shirt underneath, black pants with red stripes down the outer leg tucked into simple black boots, and a well-worn heavy blaster pistol hangs at his hip. His salt and pepper hair is perfectly messy. His dark brown eyes peer out from under grey eyebrows and survey the cantina. He spots your group, nods and cracks a smile through his salt and pepper beard, then heads to the bar.

I picture him as Dass Jennir from the Dark Times: Blue Harvest series.

Oddly enough. I picture grinner as the guys in the shadow. Always contacting the party through a vid-com but his face is always concealed except his wide sarcastic grin.

Teemo the Hutt.

Did he deal in psychedelic mushrooms? Was the entire business venture a trap? Did he hide in plain sight?

If any of the answers to these questions is "No", I am deeply disappointed in you.

My mind's eye saw and heard Dex from Ep.II.

Well, sorry to hear your group is a bunch of hairless apes that can't do anything :P

I have thought about bringing Grinner into my game as well. It's funny, I never really thought of him having a big smile or anything. Just thought of it as a name. I guess it's akin to Triangularblockofwood Antilles. :D

I think I would keep him on the holovid screen as well, I kind of imagine him as being a "witness" on tv, shadowed out and electronic voice modulation.

Honestly, I always thought of Grinner as a Rodian. No real idea why.

I've considered having him be in my game, but probably only as a contact or general information guru. He might end up as the players' handler depending on who they're working for, but I figured I'd leave him as just a little extra flavor.

Hey um, the GM's forum is up there. ^^

Hrm. I mean, I have no idea what the intent was for Grinner, and I hadn't read anything too carefully, but I always pictured him as a Snivvian in the mold of Marn Hierogryph from JJM's KOTOR comics.
