Remaking a name pilot : If you could change two pilots abilities... who? what?

By The_Brown_Bomber, in X-Wing

May be alone on this one, but Han Solo, he should be able to choose which dice to re-roll - so basically a target lock ability. For that many points, he should be able to do something more useful.

I would agree that Han Solo needs something better. Something is wrong when most of squad list suggestions don't include Han and instead favor Chewie or Lando.

I have felt that FFG attempted to capture his "lucky Han" ability, but where is his mad flying skills highlighted? What about boosting his Agility to 2?

I usually don't get into threads like this as I only like to deal in absolutes... We obviously can't change the game.

But Wedge's ability, and how he plays in game bother me.

Wedge survived all three movies. If the books did not exist he would be known as that guy who flew with luke and didn't die.

In X-Wing Wedge is almost immediately the top priority target in every game and is usually one of the first ships to die (unless biggs).

I think Wedge's ability should have been survival based.

yeah thats a fair call actually - his ship got damaged on the trench run and Luke made the decisive shot on the reactor.

maybe they should have given Wedge... Lukes pilot ability.

imo Lukes ability should have been something more generic in line with his force abilities - hard to simulate this in game terms but even rerolling a blank dice on both attack AND defense fits the bill.

All the options people have suggested seem fair to me and include all of the changes that I think would work but what I want to see is an experienced Luke (full Jedi role). I like Darth's ability as it is strong, showing his force ability, for some one who rarely see's cockpit time (per the movies). An alternate Soon Tir card as a rebel pilot would be cool also.

I could see Luke/Wedge having an 'un-biggs' ability... that is, "Whenever Luke is hit by an attack, an other friendly ship within range 1 can suffer the damage."

sounds more like an ability for the empire. would be cool to have an upgrade card with this (Empire Only of course)

I would swap Kath and Marrek's abilities.

Two obvious pilots that need to get tweaked:

  • Arvel: You do not lose your action from touching another ship after you execute a maneuver. You may declare an enemy ship inside your firing arc that you are touching as the target of your attack.
  • Fel's Wrath: When the damage assigned to you equals or exceeds your hull value, you may immediately perform a primary weapon attack and then immediately destroy your ship. You cannot reroll attack dice or change attack dice results for this attack.

Related:

  • Horton Salm and "Dutch" Vander now both have an EPT.
  • Maarek Steele: jury is still out. I would let all TIE Advanced x1 equip a Fire Control System for 0 points, and increase Vader's cost by 1. This might make Maarek balanced.
  • Major Rhymer: reduce his cost by 1 to 25 points. (Possibly more) His ability is great but costs an extra 4 points above the normal cost progression. There's not much point in taking a bomber if you can't afford to put ordinance on it! APT + PtL on him costs 35 points for what amounts to a single shot at range 1-2 that does 5 hits.
  • Boba Fett: when you reveal a bank or turn maneuver, you may rotate your dial to the other maneuver of the same speed and type (bank or turn).

Hmmm...

Fel's Wrath - When your ship's hull is reduced to zero, you may make an immediate attack - the defender cannot roll any defense die.

This keeps his ability, but makes it an excellent attack (imo) and worth playing here and there.

I can't really think of a rebel pilot that Really needs a change, except for Arvel, and everyone else has said what i would say.

Other imps

Winged Gundark - Take away the range restriction, so it becomes "You may change 1 (hit) to a crit"

Maarek Steele - I can't just do the Winged Gundark move, and i like the fact that he focuses on crits but theres not alot of other options so i'd just flip it up completely and do something like - "After you perform an attack that hits, you may assign a free evade token to your ship"

Adding a Fire Control System was the general consensus on the Eternally Long "How To Fix The TIE Advanced" Thread. :P

I just want the named y wing drivers to get an EPT

Uh oh guys, this dude is a Sith!
