Is Having 2 Millennium Falcons/Slave I's Necessary?

By lostfanatic6, in X-Wing

Just started getting into the game and recently traded for someone's collection. Included they had 2 Firespray-31's and 2 YT-1300's. My question is, are they necessary? I honestly haven't looked into many of the great, winning tournament lists so I don't know what's being used. What are everyone's thoughts?

It might be my ignorance in the game or a sense that I'm committing blasphemy by having 2 Millennium Falcons!

Its not uncommon to have multiple large ships, if for no other reason than the additional upgrade cards they provide.

There are any number of lists using two YT-1300s, and even more using two (or even three) Firesprays, so having multiples aren't a problem at all. One way to get around the sense of blasphemy is to repaint one of the duplicate ships differently, so you only have "one" Millennium Falcon, and one other one that can be anything you want.

"Stock" light freighter, yo. :D

Necessary? No. Helpful? Sure. One of my favorite squads right now is a double Firespray list. Double YTs are rarer than double Firesprays, but it's still done on occasion.

Indeed as the others have said ... they are not necessary... but some of us do repaints, so they do come in handy.. I have 2 Firesprays, and will get a third soon to repaint as I am trying to do one repaint now.. nut I did just get a 3rd Shuttle, and Falcon, also to do repaints and remodels..

But game wise, there are several lists with multiple large ships one could use.. so it just depends on what you want to do..

Not necessary at all.

I'd say double Firespray is used far more often than double Falcons and perhaps just as importantly I see more squads that use double the Firespray's upgrades (notably Stealth Device) than I do double the Falcon's (Shield and Engine).

If you're looking at using them for more "trade bait" I think you could let go of the second Falcon easier than you should let go of the second Firespray.

The other factor is that there is nothing stopping you from playing at a points value higher than 100. Having two YT-1300's is great if you're playing 200-300 points a side.

I have 2 firesprays, a shuttle and a falcon.

My favourite list's generally have 2 firesprays, as its a lovely ship. I can see myself getting a 3rd firespray or second shuttle before a second falcon.

You have to remember that the slave 1 and millenium falcon are unique ships, however they are based on "common" ships. Slave 1 is a firespray to me as I saw it quite often in x wing alliance.

Currently at 1 Falcon, 2 Firespray and 2 Shuttle. I just don't see the need yet for a second Falcon currently. Maybe in a 200 or more point build, but not at 100 or 150 really.

I have a fairly effective list that works with 2 YT-1300s and a Y-wing. The extra flexibility is never a bad thing.

I just got my 2 of each of them. The upgrades are nice,. I ran 2 firesprays, didn't do well, but part of that was flying. I have seen 3 of them fly before.

I have 3 Firesprays and 2 Falcons. The Falcons mainly for the cards and a repaint on one. The three Firesprays I fly all three quite often.

Yep the YT-1300 is one of the most prolific ships out there and the Millenium Falcon's configuration is often referred to as the stock model as it is the most often seen configuration of the YT-1300.. Though it comes in tonnes of different configurations, center cockpit, standard triple engine, extra stowage, armored.. So you can really go to town if you want.

So having a second basic Falcon really isn't an issue at all canon wise. Nor is having multiple Firesprays. Though I would feel wrong flying 2 with Boba Fetts colors.

The double YT list did very well in the last tournament, and I often see double Firespray lists.

The Firespray is my favourite ship in the game and I commonly play double Firespray lists.

I also have an idea for a pure troll list:

Outer Rim Smuggler + Anti-Pursuit Laser + Mercenary Copilot + Saboteur

Outer Rim Smuggler + Anti-Pursuit Laser + Mercenary Copilot + Saboteur

Outer Rim Smuggler + Anti-Pursuit Laser + Mercenary Copilot + Saboteur

Basic idea, jam up the center of the board, then keep them stuck slamming into you as you pump saboteur damage into them.

Similar to my troll list:

Outer Rim Smuggler + Anti-Pursuit Laser + Intel Agent + Navigator

Outer Rim Smuggler + Anti-Pursuit Laser + Intel Agent + Navigator

Outer Rim Smuggler + Anti-Pursuit Laser + Intel Agent + Navigator

I only have one of both so, no, not necessary. I mainly use small ships in tournaments anyways.

The YT-1300 I would not recommend a list with more than 1 named pilot. But the generic Outer Rim Smuggler almost makes the YT-1300 a completely different ship. It is significantly cheaper (almost half the price). A couple of Outer Rim Smugglers, especially with gunners and or anti-pursuit lasers.

As for the Firespray, it is a little cheaper at the high end, but not as cheap at the low end. It can take two few hits than the (named) YT-1300 but it has twice the agility and the evade action for free. It is a really solid ship. I think two you could find lots of ways to field 2 of them. 3 naked bounty hunters is a pretty awesome list too.

What about cards. The other day I was complaining to myself about how I wanted to get a couple more Stealth Device cards, and the price of a whole Firespray seemed a lot for two cards. Then I realized that I wanted another Heavy Laser Cannon card as well. Then I realized that I actually really liked the Firespray. And I realized that there wasn't really any down side to buying another one.

So to answer your question: Should you buy more of the larger ships or stay with just one? I would say that there are definite reasons to buy more. Do you need them, maybe not. I would definatly get extra of the smaller fighters before I got more of the big ships, but I don't think you would be sad if you got them.
