Build strat

So a buddy of mine has been mopping the floor with us at a local tournament using:

Vader + concussion+vet instincts +engine upgrade

Soontir +PTL + stealth

Turr + stealth + vet

His build ensures he always fires first which is crucial for his ingame strategy. I almost took him with:

wedge +r2astro + vet

Luke + R2D2 + draw fire + shield

Biggs +R2F2 + stealth

it came down to wedge and vader and his roll was better than mine.

so heres the question(s) using the below build:

2X gold squad + ion turret

rookie pilot

wedge +PTL + r2 astro

1. would this be sufficient to take on the imperial build above?

2. Would it be sufficient to take on a variety of builds that I might see in a tourney?

3. Does it have enough fire power or should i go with: 2Xrookie + r2 astro, Wedge + r2d2, gold squad + ion turret?

If he's good, your ion turrets won't really get shots off on his interceptors. But if you do manage to get a shot in on Fel, it's game over for him, as he should be (and remain) stressed from then on. Going to a 4 ship squad is good idea. I'm not too sure I like the one you posted though. Honestly, the best counter to any interceptor squad is the YT-1300. If you're building specifically to counter his list, there should be a named YT in there.

Interceptors, even with stealth hate Ion's. They can'tr boost/barrel roll away from them. Worse for them if they're stressed, they can't shed that stress, which means no action.

So in against this build, use the Y's to ion the Int's and the X's to blast them.

Against other Imp builds it should still work, pretty much the same way. Another rookie is only going to give you 1 more die, so I'd stick with 2 X's and 2 Y's.

Turrets and ion tokens defeat interceptors. Interceptors go for dodging firing arcs to be effective. A turret denies them that option and an ion token limits their movement. A good squad would be:

Gold with ion 23 pts

Very tanky and will allow you many shots on target. Land an ion and pounce that target to keep them ioned.
