how many hits with a shotgun?

By guest308838, in Only War Rules Questions

Apologies if this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything on this subject.

Shotguns have the scatter ability: If fired at a foe within Point Blank range, every two Degrees of Success the firer scores indicates another hit.

A combat shotgun can fire in semi-automatic mode which also causes an additional hit for every two additional Degrees of Success.

So what happens when you shoot a combat shotgun in semi-auto mode at point blank range?

Do you score two hits for every two additional Degrees of Success? Does the maximum number of shots still limit the maximum number of hits you can score or do the "doubled" hits simply stack and are handwaved as multiple pellets from each shell?

Short answer:

Yes, you do get another hit with the same shell for every 2 DoS.

No, the maximum number of extra hits for one shell is only limited by the DoS.

Oh, and if you think that is much ... there is a full-auto shotgun in DH1, the Vanaheim. Whip out the calculator when it gets used at Point Blank.

Check the errata as the scatter quality has changed. It no longer causes additional hits.

“At Point Blank Range, this weapon gains +10 to hit and deals +3 Damage. At Short Range, this weapon gains +10 to hit. At any longer ranges, this weapon suffers –3 Damage.”

OK, thanks.

Don't know if I should be happy or just feel nerfed though. Still, a +40 to hit and 1d10+7 isn't too shabby.

It was a copy-paste error. :) Scatter was changed to the +3 damage version in Back Crusade and I assume was meant to be incorporated as such in Only War, but they CPd the text from an older game.

I like this… will have to talk to my GM about using it

Yep, scatter got nerfed. That said, I am now wondering if the text for twin linked is also a copy-paste error. That also reverted to the earlier (RT-era) version, which is considerably better than the BC version.
