Shades of Heresy (Play-by-Post) Ingame

Cade hated the lack of cover. Sticking close with Erwin he moved along with the entire group, and, as Erwin uncovered the trapdoor, he moved to help him. Seeking anything to latch onto with his hands, Cade timed his pull with Erwin to give it a mighty heave, combining their efforts.

Seito watched with morbid fascination and more than a little humor as the two burly men struggled with the door.

If she knew either of them better she would have definitely made some snarky smart-ass remark, but as it were she remained quietly entertained and kept her weapon focused on the unknown.

Unable to open the hatch manually, Erwin starts looking for a device to open this door. Meanwhile, he asks Seito: "You look like you've got a way with techniks . Is there another way to open this blasted door?"

[search (untrained) perception 33 (-20 untrained); target 13; rolled 76 for 6DoF]

Seito approaches the door and takes her time looking for any electrical/manual interface that she could perhaps consort with the Omnissiah through.

"Watch out for critters," she says to no one in particular, hoping that the other men are better with their weapons than they are with lifting things.

As you get closer to the door, it seems to slowly react to your mechanicus implants and with a humming sound, the magnetic lock opens.

Erwin closes in with his lasgun and points it down the hole, ready to open fire on whatever lurks down there. Carefully leaning forward, favoring his good leg over the wounded one, he peeks intothe hole.

[Awareness 33 -20 untrained; target 13; rolled a 8]

The hole is a vertical tunnel with about 80cm diameter that goes down into the darkness.

Its walls are made of stone and look like they are not easy to be climbed.

A disgusting smell comes up from the depth.

Dral maintains his position near the entrance wrinkling his nose at the smell wafting out of the hole "what's down there?" I ask.

"Not a clue, whitey." replies Erwin. "It could be going down to the bottom of the underhive for all I know. Anyone has a torch or something?" Erwin spits on the ground and gently throws his smouldering lho-stick into the pit, expecting it too loose it out of sight all too soon. 'But you never know Erwin. Perhaps your luck has changed and you don't have to climb down this hellhole.'

Not waiting a response from his companions, Erwin kneels down and feels the edge of the pit, looking for hidden rungs.

I take a quick glance outside from my position by the door to ensure nobody is about and then walk across towards Erwin "let me have a look I have dark vision contacts."

Reaching Erwin I hunker down and peer into the hole "oh, and the name is Dral."

Dammek extends his hand in greeting and forces a smile onto his face. "Well, I do suppose you ought to know our names before we climb down a hole and get eviscerated by machine men. Dammek Vossen, ex-grunt from the Desoleum 623rd Penal Assault Corps. I kept some souvenirs from my previous line of work." He winks and taps his explosive collar, then temporarily holsters his pistol and makes a sweeping gesture towards his companions. "These are my associates. You've already met Dral, my main brain, and those two are Cade The Sneaky and Seito, Queen of the Flesh Staplers. He makes other people dead, and she makes sure we don't get dead. Definitely stay on both of their good sides." He glances fearfully at Seito's medicae mechadendrite before continuing.

"One of our comrades is missing: that cranky Arbitrator with the glowing red eye. I'm sure you remember him," Dammek says with a wry smile. "In a cruel twist of fate, his parents named him Captain Eyeball. That's first name Captain, last name Eyeball. Mom was a Guard officer, dad was an optician. With a name like that, it's no wonder he's so cranky all the time."

Cade looked around the room carefully with a frown. "I would suggest at least one person stay behind. We do not know what is down there. Nor do we know if perhaps we've overlooked something. I would prefer to avoid being trapped down there if something like that is the case." He remarked, putting on the night vision goggles he had lifted from Erwin's comrade and taking a look down the hole as well.

Seito transmits into her optical mechadendrite, ready to descend into the foul depths below.

[seito would know the smell of dead bodies. Is that what this is?]

YOu can see a kind of round room at the bottom of the vertical tunnel, which is after about 5m. Inside this "room" you can see a semi-transparent liquid, which fills about half of the room.

Cade looked around the room carefully with a frown. "I would suggest at least one person stay behind. We do not know what is down there. Nor do we know if perhaps we've overlooked something. in addition to what dral can see, you find a hidden port...it looks like a kind of interface port.

Seito transmits into her optical mechadendrite, ready to descend into the foul depths below.

[seito would know the smell of dead bodies. Is that what this is?]

YOu are not sure what this liquid is, without further analysis. But its colour doesnt look human.

"Looks to be about 5m down and opens out into a room, and there is some sort of liquid that fills half the room" I stand back from the hole and look hopefully at my companions "I don't suppose anyone has some rope? And erm Dammek you sure someone should stay behind, sounds dangerous!

Dammek retrieves his Guard-issue grapnel hook from his belt. "I've got this right here. This should do the trick. I've got photo-contacts as well, so I'll go down first." He can't believe he is volunteering for a job like this, but he takes comfort in the fact that he can winch himself out quickly if some axe-wielding robot charges him. [in case it becomes relevant, a grapnel can winch the user up or down at 5m/round]

Dammek scans the immediate area for any possible grapnel anchor points. The grapnel has three hooks and an electromagnet at the tip, so a ledge or a ferrous metal surface are both suitable anchors.

Dammek extends his hand in greeting and forces a smile onto his face. "Well, I do suppose you ought to know our names before we climb down a hole and get eviscerated by machine men. Definitely stay on both of their good sides."

"I'm afraid it's a bit too late for that Dammek, but I'll try to make it up to them." says Erwin with a grateful nod at the former penal legionnaire. "Not to worry, the cour-ta-zy is extended to you and Dral too." he continues with a forced smile at the psyker.

Erwin takes the end of the grappling hook and attaches it with its magnetic pole onto the solid hatch. "Good luck friend. I'll be right behind you. With a grin that shows a few cracked teeth, he adds: "I'll try not to fall on top of you, private Dammek Boom."

As he turns away from Dammek, Erwin directs his look at Cade: "Look sergeant Cade, I'm with Dral. Better stick together. The only way to take down those machinemen is not to let them come close, by concentrating our fire. So I'll follow Dammek down the hole. You're coming too?"

Cade gave a nod. "There's something that looks like an interface port down there. I could try to use it if it doesn't require any augmentations to do so." He stated, las pistol still in hand. Looking at it now, it seemed utterly inadequate for what lay ahead. Oh well. He nodded as if to indicate for someone to start heading down.

It would need a matching augmentation.

Dammek swallows nervously and checks to make absolutely sure his grapnel is securely fastened to the wall. He then jumps over the ledge into the hole (presumably with Cade and Erwin following him), photo-contacts active and laspistol at the ready. He allows the powered winch to spool out and descends slowly into the darkness below.

Erwin attaches his own grapnel on the magnetic hatch and clips the line to his safetybelt. He takes a deep breath and whispers "For the Throne and thrones", putting his faith in the line and jumping down the hole. He makes sure not to land on Dammek and tries to descend as quietly as possible. Before plunging into the water, he checks out Dammek's position. 'Are his feet burning away because of an acid bath or am I just imagining things... Keep it together Erwin! It's already gonna be though, so don't try too make it worse.'

As soon as Erwin determines that Dammek has landed safely in the liquid, he descends even further and starts scanning the room with his lasgun aimed in front of him, no doubt severely hampered by a lack of light.

As you land in the water and make physical contact with it, a sudden rush of panic rises inside of you. A panic that is overwhelming and pure, like you never felt before - not even in a warzone.

As you go behind Dammek, you have to wait a little just as Dammek jumps into the liquid.

As you inhale the liquids smell in the air, an uneasy feeling starts to build up inside of you, that grows stronger and stronger.
