Amongst a hail of bullets I scramble for the cover of the trash container nearby and duck down.

Edited by dava100You get +30 for being in cover anyway on the pinning roll, so you easily made it.
Cade is substantially shaken by the bullets that riddled his body, and his head feels incredibly woozy. There's a ringing in his ears, and from the impacts he felt, he knew that without his flak helmet, his head may well have been taken off by that volley. But there is no time to ponder this. Cade knew immediately that if he did not act now he was a dead man. His pistol was in hand, and he raised it quickly to take as quick a shot at his adversary as he could. He had to make this shot count. He had not yet reloaded it from the last encounter but knew there was enough shots left to do what he was attempting. He amped up the setting on the laspistol as he made his shot. He couldn't risk a misfire, so Overloading it was out of the question. Overcharging it on the other hand... Cade quickly surmised this as his best, and only chance for success. Another volley like that and he was done for. His armor was tough... but clearly not tough enough to withstand the rampage that his foe's autogun could deal out.
[Overcharged shooting action. Need a 46 to hit, rolled a 36 for 1 DoS, and a hit to the body.]
[Damage roll: 6+3, for 9 damage to the target's body if he doesn't dodge this]
[side note, for self reference: Las pistol currently has 24/30 shots left]
Edited by ColAranaThe mercenary seems to be surprised that you are still able to stand after his lethal attack and therefore is unable to avoid your shot.
The shot hits him and almost puts him prone (which at his position would have pushed him over the edge of the roof). He managed his Toughness Test by 2 DoS though and keeps standing, critically wounded.
He smiles an evil smiles while aiming his autogun at you.
His Semi-Auto-Burst scores a 12 against 38+10 (short range) +10 (aim) --> 5 DoS --> 3 hits if you cant dodge.
Damage would be 13 (RF !), 11, 7. [you better put your remaining luck into a legendary dodge here]
Locations: arm, arm, body
Edited by GauntZero[Need a 41 to dodge, rolled a 37 for 1 DoS. Going to spend my second fate point, to add 1 degree of success to this, allowing me to dodge the first two shots]
That's it! Fall! Fall! Cade mentally willed his adversary to drop. He was not so fortunate. His opponent regained his composure found a shot and took it. Cade's legs were like jelly after that volley of bullets but with all of his might, he hurled himself sideways. He did it! The bullets had missed!
Thud.
Except for that one.
[TB3+AV4=7. 7-7=0. Barely enough armor to absorb that shot]
One bullet slammed into Cade's leg armor and the shock of the hit jarred his leg. Not enough to debilitate him further, and the bullet failed to breach his armor, but it certainly wasn't a comfortable experience. Cade let out a breath as he realized he was alive.... for the next few seconds at least.
The mercenary curses and takes his helmet of to better see you. His right eye is just a bleeding wreck.
He shouts towards you: "Hey you ! Lets settle this like men !". With a gesture, he provokes you to drop your weapon and fight in melee with him.

Edited by GauntZeroCade grit his teeth through the pain of the bullet that had struck his leg. Running about wouldn't help him. He held his ground, to try and gain stability in his legs. He shifted his las pistol up to its highest setting now, overloading this next shot. He took careful aim at his adversary, in the brief space of time he had, and took his shot.
[Half action to aim (+10), half action to shoot an Overloaded shot (-4 ammo): Need 56, rolled a 46 for 1 DoS]
[Damage: 1+4=5, Penetration 2 (thanks to Overload), to the body]
[08] the mercenary sees your shot coming and swiftly avoids it with a quick turn.
"Coward", he shouts and aims a single shot at you to finish you of.
He rolls a 65 (body), which scores 1 hit (BS 38 +10 aimed +10 standard +10 short range) with 10 damage if you can't dodge.
"You are not man enough to meet me knife by knife ?"
Edited by GauntZero[Half action to fire at one of the mercenaries with unjammed guns behind the dumpster. Target number 24; rolled a 20 for a headshot with 1 DoS. Damage = 5]
[Roll to unpin. Target number 64; rolled a 68. Spent a Fate point to reroll and got a 17, so Dammek will be unpinned next turn.]
Dammek dives behind the dumpster as soon as the mercenaries began firing. Gritting his teeth, he leans out and snaps off a quick shot with his laspistol before ducking back into cover. He feels himself begin to sweat profusely and looks for the nearest escape route. He hadn't stayed alive this long to be shot to death behind a dumpster in some Emperor-forsaken hab-block. Feth his fellow investigators, he's going to save his own skin today.
Then a warm glow fills his mind as his heart rate slows. He hears a voice in the back of his head, repeating the seer's words in a comforting yet commanding tone: "The only true fear is of dying with your duty not done." He remembers all the comrades who died because of his inaction: Dirk, Mallory, Sewell, Lyra... the list went on and on. Because he had feared death more than shame, all of them were feeding the roots of corpse-grass on battlefields half a sector away. He'd run up quite a blood-debt to the Emperor over the years, and it's about fething time to pay some of it back.
Dammek steels himself as he peers around the corner of the dumpster. The enemy is well past the optimum range of his allies' pistols and shotgun -- these mercenaries sure knew how to plan an ambush. He tries to find a way to advance on the enemy position: are there any other pieces of cover or side alleys? Could he enter one of the buildings forming the alley walls and use them to get closer?
He yells up to Asterius: "Boss have you got that thing disarmed yet? If so, climb onto the roof and help Cade! Then use the rooftops to flank the mercs behind that dumpster -- we've got no chance in a straight-up firefight!"
Edited by Covered in WeaselsOne of the guys on the ground manages to unjam his weapon, while the other two try to fire on Dammek and Dral.
The first misses, the second one hits with 1 hit, but the shot is absorbed by the cover.
Bullets fly around your heads, making you feel very mortal.
(Whoops. Just realized I screwed up. Cade is pinned at the moment, so he should not have been able to make the half action aim in his last round. He should only have been able to make half actions, unless Pinning rules have changed since DH1. My bad. Fortunately at a 46 he'd have hit anyways, but still, will remember that on his next round. If he gets a next round.)
[Need 41, rolled a 1, for 4 DoS, and the elusive roll of a 1!]
Time seemed to slow down for Cade. His eyes trained in on his opponent as he brought up his gun, and saw the muzzle flash. In that instant Cade did not lurch or hurl himself aside as he had before, nor throw himself to the ground, but merely turned his , and leaned to one side, the round of bullets flashing through the space his upper body had just inhabited. His adversary's taunt caused his brow to furrow, but he raised the sword in his opposite hand, as if to suggest that a duel in close quarters was fine with him! ...Assuming, of course, his opponent was the first to put his gun down. Cade may have answered his taunt, but was far from stupid enough to disarm himself of his gun against a foe with, admittedly a far superior weapon.
The mercenary on the roof with cade smiles at Cades gesture and drops down his autogun while quickdrawing a mean mono-combat-knife.
"Lets see what you are made of."

Gaunt, I don't suppose the trash container me and Dammek are hiding behind has wheels (you know the type I mean)? Also, roughly how far away are our enemies on the ground?
Edited by dava100They are about 40m away.
Indeed, the container does have wheels. The containers weight though is quite heavy (it is made from thick metal).
I look to Dammek "Hey, lets see if we can shift this thing, we need to get closer as we are too exposed here"
[if Dammek agrees we make some kind of combined strength roll; Roll 80
, target 31; 6DoF]

Lets say...it is too heavy to be moved. ;D

Edited by GauntZeroAsterius turn is yet needed to disarm the trap - it took longer than he expected.
Next ones are Cade and Dammek.
[i rolled a 05 on Dammek's Strength test to move the dumpster -- is that good enough to get it rolling?
Dammek indeed gives the dumpster a surprisingly strong push. Surprising both to him and the mercenaries.
You seem to have loosened some kind of braking mechanism and the dumpster now drives with good speed towards the mercenaries.
The mercenaries on the ground, being shockingly surprised by the advancing dumpster, seem to retreat...
With a grunt of exertion, Dammek drives his shoulder into the dumpster. To his surprise, he hears the snapping of rusted metal as their makeshift cover begins moving foreward. He grins and continues to push the dumpster towards the shocked mercenaries.

Cade saw his opponent drop his auto-gun and so in turn, Cade himself slid his las pistol into its holster. True, he might have liked to shoot his enemy as he charged up, but with his auto-gun still in reach, Cade didn't want to take any chances. Still crouched low, he shifted his sword from his off hand into his dominant hand, and brought it before him, awaiting his foe.
With an evil smile, the mercenary charges you. With a swift attack, he scores 1 DoS, which means 1 hit, if you do not dodge or parry it.
The damage would be 7 with Pen 2 to the right leg.
