CHEAP X-WING MINI'S GAME STARTER SETS

By DMShag, in X-Wing

To anyone looking to start playing the Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game or just looking to expand your collection of star fighters, look no further than your local Target store. I just picked up the starter set for $12 bucks. They had 9 sets on the clearance rack in the toy section. After Christmas overstock. They lady working the toy department said they had reduced the price on them 3 times now down to the current $12 asking price. She said if they don't start selling soon, they'll end up in a $5 bin. HOOK IT UP..

Target only reduces the price 3 times and then sends the unsold product out to be given to the poor. There is no 5 dollar bin.

Be that as it may. 12 bucks for the starter set that is and has been going for 40 bucks both online and at my flgs is a steal.

Be sure to bring cash, though. ;)

Tried all the Target stores near me and none have them in stock.

My target still has them at $40

True. There are at least 6 targets within 45 mins of my house, and not one has them in stock

A friend went to a Target that hadn't marked them down so low yet. He showed the clerk forum posts like this (using his phone) that other Targets had them clearanced. The clerk let him have the better price. Doesn't hurt to ask.

im thinking you need to go to the stores, checking online all of them show as not in stock

Mine dont either. I was gonna get two of them but oh well.

I called 6 stores, 4 by me and 2 by my parents. All said they were sold out.

A friend let me know he saw them at his Target for $20. My brother got one, but I held off. Went there a couple days later and they were gone. Checked the store closest to me though, and found 3 copies ($12 each). Bought them all. I've purchased 5 starters now. About ready to run my "Attack on the Death Star" convention scenario... ;)

Our Target dropped the price last fall to $12 and I haven't seen them back in stock yet. So for those of you that aren't having luck finding them they probably sold out last year.

I wish my Target actually carried this game. Then maybe I'd get lucky enough to score these sweet deals. Here I am with my two $40 core sets...argh.

I picked up 11 sets at Targets in VA and TX over the past two weeks

All were priced at $12...

Went back to my local target to see about picking up a couple more sets at the $12 price before they were sold out or donated. They had one set left on a shelf in front of the electronics register. Yep. 5 bucks. I asked a manager if they would carry the game again anytime soon and he said "not likely". It took them 2 years to sell the original stock they were given and that it didn't really start selling till it went on clearance. Oh well. No after Christmas bargains for me next year.

target sends all of their unbought stock to goodwill, a few will probably show up there.

You guys in the states have no idea how lucky you are to get starters at $12-$20. Down under the core set is AU$70...

Actually the exchange rate is rather good its almost 1:1 which just makes it worse. But thanks to miniature market myself and two other guys who play are getting full fleets at decent prices. :)

I got my first starter set at target back in the fall of last year. It was shelved with the board games then. Saw it a month before Christmas at the same target, in the Puzzle section rather than with the Star Wars toys or the board games. I was surprised by that. I don't have a FLGS closer than 90 miles away so when I spotted it at Target I was stoked and kept going back hoping to find some of the expansions but they never showed up. Then to find it hanging out with a bunch of Mickey Mouse puzzles (ironic I know) was disappointing.

I didn't know about this game until I saw it at Barnes & Noble just this last December. I'm a long-term gamer and would never think of browsing Target's shelves for cool games, although I see now that they do have some "gamer's" games such as Munchkin and Catan. While I think that is great for exposing a game to the masses, I bet the original cost also put off the masses.

Whereas you and I can appreciate that 3 miniatures, detailed and fully painted, along with rules to a fantastically deep game are worth $40 (USD) the "masses" probably looked at that same price tag and thought, "$40 bucks for 3 tiny models, are you NUTS?!" Target was DEFINITELY a better market than the folks at Wal*Mart (I'm a wearin' PJ's ma, while shoppin' and I'm a fixin' on pickin' up this here Ex-Wing game... before you flame me, I grew up in Missouri and my dad worked at Wal*Mart before they went to three states, so I have the right to generalize here, especially since I still shop at at Wal*Mart for cheap crap while wearing my PJs) but I think the B&N crowd is a better "general" market than even Target. Hopefully this game will pick up even more traction with B&N instead of Target.

So what point was I trying to make here?

I dunno, I forgot by now.

The point is that I hate you all and your cheap, cheap X-Wing. Good specials are always hard to come by in Australia.

LMAO, so you are saying I could make a tidy profit by smuggling in a bunch of Target starter sets in my carry-on the next time I fly down under to speak at a conference? ;)
