Siren

By The_Warlock, in Talisman

Have you noticed that Siren text has changed in Revised 4th edition? Now it is basically the same as Storm: all players in the same region must miss a Turn, no racial immunities allowed.

Is this correct or is it an error? Why have they changed Siren Adventure Card?

Same like storm yes, older version have immunities? sorpresa.gif I feel as a student talking with teachers when listen("read") you guys with the old knowledge of Talisman.

Oh Sages enlight me!

Yeah, back in the 2nd ed. all non-humans used to be immune (Dwarf, Elf, Ghoul, etc.). Checking the BI 4th, looks it those characters also had immunity in that. My feeling is that since they're planning expansions, it simplifies things. BI Siren lists those immune to her on the card. If they added characters and wanted them to have immunity, would've had to put that text on the char cards. It would've looked odd, some characters list immunity on the card, others don't. Also, ruleswise, easier to have an all or none text. Only encounter that's left is the one where all but Evil chars lose a turn. 2nd ed Ranger had a text that made him immune to the Storm and Blizzard cards.

On a side note, Minstrel got shafted by losing his immunity to the Cursed by a Hag card.

This is a good reason, but it makes Siren a tasteless card. A text like "all human Characters must miss a Turn" would have been clear enough without upsetting the expansions.

Did you notice that FFG Expansions contain all human Characters? Reaper has: Knight, Dark Cultist, Sage and Merchant; Dungeon will have: Amazon, Gladiator, Gypsy, Philosopher and Swashbuckler. No plenty of demihumans and humanoids for now.

That's true. I'm still expecting to see some (would'nt mind all) of the following non-humans: Halfling, Hobgoblin, Goblin, Orc, Leprechaun, Satyr. All of those saw actions during our 2nd ed days.

The other non-humans in 2nd edition were Centaur, Sprite (my favourite character), Dark Elf, Minotaur and Valkyrie. Also, Dragon Slayer is a dwarf.

:)

Ah ha, so I'm not the only one who didn't see the point of that card changing... and Warlock, your suggested wording in right on the mark. Plus, any new characters that need to be exempt from the Siren's effect could have that listed on their Character card. That's the way it was in the old days of 2e. And it worked.
