Accidentally Spilled Water on Game

By Exprise, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hey Guys,

Only just received this game 2 days ago and just played the 2nd encounter of Castle and my friend accidentally knocked a glass of water over the table.

Some map tiles, tokens and cards got wet.

We immediately soaked up any water with paper towel and i pressed all the possibly wet pieces between paper towel with heavy books on top.

Some of the tokens are splitting into 3 separate layers and some tiles split into 3 layers at some of the joins but they are being pressed between towels and under books at present.

Does anyone know of the best way to fix this?

-Superglue between the split layers?

Also is it possible to order specific map tiles and cards? If so where from.

On the side I had another question;

Health Potions - Can you use them more than once per encounter and do they carry on to the second encounter. If so are they usable again? Do they cost an action?

I'm sorry to hear that! I haven't found anywhere where you can get specific map tiles/cards, but Auggie's Games sells cards and tiles together for pretty low prices:

Unfortunately, they seem to be out of the tiles/tokens, but they have the large cards set for $2.99 and the small card set for $2.99.

I would make sure to give the components a good week to dry out, at least, before doing anything.

Unfortunately, I've never had to deal with this sort of damage, so I'm not sure the best way to fix it.

You could contact FFG to ask about replacements (potentially with a charge.) They might not be willing to replace the bits, since its accidental damage and not a manufacturing defect. Can't hurt to ask, though.

In future, I heartily recommend a separate side-table for drinks and snacks, though! :P

Auggie's (already mentioned) is the only place I know of. FFG doesn't sell bits separately.

They do carry over the second encounter, but they MUST be sold at the end of the quest (used or not.) Once used, they're done. I think the Alchemist might have a skill to turn potions face up again, but I might be wrong. Barring a special ability that lets you do it, though, no dice.

Potions only cost an action if they say they cost an action.

Thanks for all your help guys! Has been amazing! =)

To expand on Steve-O's notes:

Potions do carry over, but can only be used once per quest. If you use it in the first encounter, it stays face down during the second encounter. If you don't use it in the first encounter, it is saved and can be used in the second encounter. Regardless of if it is used or not, it's sold during the campaign phase for its gold value.

This JUST happened to all my quest guides. I notice I can't buy new ones from FFG or Auggies. What's the point of holding on to the Proof of Purchase tiles?

I would encourage you to scan your rulebooks before even playing the game and prohibit drinks on the gaming table (along with most food).

However try contacting FFG, joining pictures of the disaster. They can be quite comprehensive about your problem.

Ok,

So after the spilled water, I mopped it all up with paper towel.

Then I layered paper towel, wet pieces, paper towel, book, paper towel, wet cards, paper towel book. and let it press for 3 days.

A few pieces (including the unique search token) split apart but surprisingly most of the map tiles are in next to new condition, which is a real joy for me.

I super glued the tokens together but the super glue dried dark around the cut edges of the tokens so they are easy to tell which is the unique search token, but they function fine!

I may take some photos of the event and send it in, though I may be able to just mark one of my standard search token and let that be the 'unique' search token.

Some of the cards still have a bit of a bend to them but all is good! will leave them under some books over the week.

Sleaving your cards can be a good thing to do.

It also extends their life time and protects them from greasy fingers, etc.
