Had a good game last night with my 6 Tie swarm

By RyonAndo, in X-Wing Battle Reports

I ran the following:

Howlrunner, Swarm Tactics

Turr Phennir, VI

Backstabber

3x Academy Pilot

98 pts total

My friend ran

Biggs, SD

3x B-wing Blue squadron all with FCS

It came down to 1 B-wing with 1 hull left against backstabber and howlrunner each with 2 hull left, thankfully I was able to flank him with backstabber while he chase after howlrunner and finished him off.

Great game overall, my saving grace was being able to take Biggs out by the third combat phase and the is was a matter of focusing down those meaty B-wings.

Since you have 2 points left id consider dropping vi and making all 3 academy ties obsidian instead.

Reminds me of my last game. It was a 4 person 200 point per side match.

My partner and I ran Imerials:

Partners list:

Vader

Winged Gundark

Backstabber

Mauler Mithil

And one more I forget, Vader had Sqaud leader

My list:

Howlrunner

Dark Curse

Academy Tie X5

Howl had Stealth Device and Push The Limit

Rebs:

Luke/ R2-D2/draw their fire

Ten Numb/ Autoblasters/

Horton Salm/Ion turret

Reb2

Han Solo/Gunner/Push the Limit/Mil Falc title

Rookie X-wings x2

Sorry in advance I don't recall everything my opponents ran on their ships

The Game shifted back and forth, Imperials had early success when Luke fly right in front of 6 ties and got vaporized. Then the B-wing took several shield damage, it was looking like a decisive Imperial Vic, then it changed. Vader's named tie escort started to drop like fly's, not before finally wiping out the rookie X-wings and doing alittle damage to Han's "Shoots all day" falcon, I'll add that in the first several rounds the player rolling for those rookie X's rolled 2 evades everytime. Evenutally the game came down to Howlrunner who survived a point blank autobalster gun run when Ten Numb wiffed the roll, Ten Numb, Vader, Dark Curse, and Horton. With the win going to Vader, and Howlrunner. It was a crazy game.

Since you have 2 points left id consider dropping vi and making all 3 academy ties obsidian instead.

I did think about that but I use the academy ties as action blockers and cannon fodder anyways but that is good advice an something to think about. I will say having VI on Turr did help as I was able to get into position, fire and then boost or barrel roll out of the way and with my squad at 98 points I usually get initiative.

In that original matchup VI is a complete waste of points on Turr as his PS 7 already move after Biggs and fires before him. Backstabber's PS 6 is also better than the PS 5 Biggs.

It may also just be me but FCS seems less than ideal on B-Wings against TIEs. "Free" TL are nice but only if you are shooting at the same ship the second time. That rebel squad definitely is not made for use against swarms, even the "smallish" six ship versions.
