Tournament list!

By UnfairBanana, in X-Wing

So, first tourney today, and I'm looking at flying:

99pts.
Blue Squad:

-Adv. Sensors

-Autoblaster

-Engine Upgrade

Blue Squad:

-Adv Torps

-HLC

Garven:

-R2D2

The general idea is to send the Autoblaster B-wing into the fray, using it's upgrades to get in range 1 and do unblockable damage. Garven also shoots first, and will then pass focus to Blue.
Meanwhile, the other Blue hangs back and wreaks havoc with the ever-wonderful HLC, and carries Adv. Torps just in case it someone gets close.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

6 squad points spent for a single extra die on a single R1 attack doesn't really help the survivability of an already fragile 3 ship list.

I'd trade the APT and your last squad point to upgrade both Blues to Daggers and put Advanced Sensors on the HLC carrier. If you don't have 2 Advanced Sensors cards, FCS is an ok replacement until you can get more sensors cards.

Another option would be to keep both Bwings as Blues and put a shield upgrade on Garven w/ FCS or AS on HLC carrier, It's a rough choice, since AS gets progressive better the higher PS you have, but defensively Garven is currently your weak link, and you need his action stacking to maximize the tradeoff of 3dice autoblaster vs 4 dice primary weapon attack.

Not a fan of the Autoblaster. Great if you get into range 1 of high agility ships but the "unblockable" isn't all that impressive when you consider crits can still be done away with by dice, Evade tokens can knock off hits, and against low agility ships you're actually handicapping your damage or wasting points.

I also agree the APT on a Blue with HLC is pretty much a complete waste.

ok im going to assume u only have one copy of adv. sensors. how about...

100pts

Garven Dreis + R2 Astromech (27)

Biggs Darklighter + R2 Atromech (26)

Blue Squadron PIlot + Advanced Sensors (25)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

... if u dont have the astromechs id go with Fire Control System on the Blue Squadron Pilot without an upgarde. Free target locks r pretty handy.

  • I agree with A.Theta that putting that many points into a single strike is iffy. While it in easy to be lured into thinking HLC and Avd. Torps are going to carve thru the enemy in reality the torps are hit or miss and tricky to set up (get to range1 and have focus + target lock enable on the enemies best ship... easier said than done).
  • HLC is amazing - but only when u get to fire it multiple times. A smart opponent will target the ship with it and take it out early leaving u wondering how u can recover losing so many points without the ship with the most firepower gone :(
  • I agree with Stevo on the autoblaster - seems to have limited use (a bit like the HLC you need to consider how many times u will actually get to use it - if the answer is not 'frequently or often' imo its a waste of points).
  • Far better to play the odds and fall back on ur piloting skills, concentrating fire of a single target, Biggs spreading the damage away from ur ships and frustrating ur enemy with keeping Biggs at long range when possible and do NOT put him on the front line right away - the longer hes in the game the better your odds of winning - play him a bit sneakily and keep him out of the worst of the crossfire and u will be rewarded with a frustrated opponent with dwindling resources :)

Ended up taking first in the tourney (out of three people, but hey, first is first)
Knocked out a Soontir Fell/Krassis/Backstabber list, and then an AABXX team.

Surprisingly, the autoblaster did quite a bit more damage than I expected it to. The HLC dropped one shield point on one of the A's, then Auto wiped him out.

The fight for first (against the rebel list) was definitely too close, though. It came down to the HLC carrier versus a rookie pilot. I had one hull left after wiping out the enemy B-wing, and the Rook was on the run with 1 shield and 3 hull. After two rounds of focused HLC's he went out, and fortunately his retaliatory shot (as they're both PS2) barely failed against my mighty 1 defense die.

It was too close of a win, but I got a neat little medal, and handful of acrylic tokens and a Gold squadron and Wedge promo cards! It was a good day. Probably wouldn't keep the autoblaster in future lists, as you guys recommended

Assuming you could line them up you did have some prime Autoblaster targets to choose from. Each of those lists had two ships with 3 agility and it's about even against a 2 agility ship.

To be fair, with Garven in his list he can get the focus token stacked for maximum APT damage pretty easily.

Since you're at 99pts with the original squad, you could remove autoblaster, move APT onto that Bwing, and have 6 pts for upgrades elsewhere, like Shield Upgrade on Garven or HLCwing and FCS on HLCwing. Also, when doing a tournament report, it's polite to show the list you ran. Judging from what you said is sounds like you went with your original list, but it would be nice if you said such if you did. If you made adjustments to your list before the tourney, we would like to know what they were.

I meant to mention that, but completely forgot. I did go with the original list, as it was kinda short notice and no comments had popped up by the time I left.
