My Repaints

By Rob Jedi, in X-Wing

I wish I was that good. Great work, please keep posting.

Rob, I've started repainting an A-Wing and this is the first time I've painted -anything- since the 90's... And the first time I've painted tech...

How do you get such clean straight lines (like on the X-Wing striping, etc)? I'm assuming most of your work is brush-based, no?

Yeah brush, thin the paint and outline the shape lightly 1st before filling it in. Kinda helps that yellows and reds are fairly light coverage too you can hide the mistakes a bit.

What scheme are you doing on the A-wing? I'm a little tempted to do up some green squadron from mine, maybe

decided to magnetize my B-wings as well purely so I could get them to take up less room in my carry case

Thought I'd take some fleet shots for the hell of it

I really should get around to finishing my Kath repaint, been whitish for a while, but now I want to do an Andrasta. Think I'd need to sand down the heavy gun port detail though to fit the twilek pinup on there

Wow.

Finally got around to finishing my Imperial Shuttle, I airbrushed over the ship months ago adding shading in various greys and white to make the ship less stark white and black since it should be much more subtle. Then I added some streaking down the wings and then using old GW Badab Black outlined the panels and details. It's not as harsh as the original black wash. To gloss up the canopy I used some Tamiya Smoke which gave a really nice shine.

WOW. That is amazing!

There is too much to like on this thread. I reached a quota.

Very cool

Very very nice work

Awesome stuff Brother!

:D

thanks everyone :D

Inspired by the N'dru Suhlak card and the prodding of the N'dru repaint thread also that I had 3 new Z-95s fresh out of the packs that I hadn't repainted yet I got to work doing 2 of them as scum pirates (they're not finished yet) and N'dru with his awesome hotrod flames and shark teeth paintwork.

I started by painted the 3 Zeds in a light grey then did a wash all over of a mix of Airbrush thinner and Dark and Strong Tones from Army Painter, Then I drybrushed with the light grey again then a lighter grey to bring out all the detail. Then I went in with Strong Tone again to darken certain areas I wanted to emphasize as being darker on the engines and the wing joints to them.

For N'dru I started his fancy paintwork by painting the mouth shape and eyes white, I also painted the engine rings and exhausts white so the gold yellow would be brighter when I applied it later. Giving it over night to dry I went in the next day with a Pigma Micron pen and outlined the eyes and mouth and then drew in the teeth. After that I painted the inside of the mouth with a dark crimson the got out a nice bright red and started painting flames before filling in the area around the mouth and nose. That was then darkened a bit on the underside and around the nose cone to bring out the detail. I painted in the engine details in the same very very old Citadel Sulfur Desert Yellow that I used on the X-wing markings. I was then hijacked to make terrain with friends for the rest of the day (the Mantic building kits turn out quite nice, love the Mars Attacks ruined brick stuff) Today I came back and added edge highlights and chips and scratches plus some extra stripes on the guns for some extra detail then glossed the canopy.

Now the pirates, you can see I from the pirate that doesn't have checkers yet I painted the canopy frames, the guns a bit, the nose cone. Then painted the canopy black again, that will get a gloss coat later. For the checkers I thinned the red a lot and using a very light touch I painted lines vertically down the fuselage to get the spacing worked out 1st, then I painted the horizontal lines and filled in the squares. The artwork on the card having a diagonal checker pattern is a headache, I think I'll paint a few more checkers at the top of the pattern then have to start on the other one. i'll get around to hlghlights and scratches after the patterns are done.

you can see in the last shot I was thinking of just keeping it simpler and making the checker band vertical down the fuselage instead of the angle, I can clean those left over lines in grey but they're barely visible.

looking real good so far. can't wait to see the finished product.

Hey Rob, this is all awesome stuff!!!

Re: the Imperial gas tanker - do you play games with it? Have you got stats/rules for it?

That reminds me I need to get a bigger base made for the tanker, It's a very similar size to the Rebel Transport so I was going to use the same rules for it. We just don't play Epic much, think we'd use it more as a large obstacle in normal games once I get the new base made.

Your Lambda repaint reminded me of these photos.

Do you have an interesting in doing a stock YT-1300,

for the ORS pilot card??

1.jpg5.jpg4.jpg

hmm that is different having an unarmed YT with all the panels in place and clean paint, does seem odd though. Can't say I fly the ORS much at all though.

Hmmmm I need to do another 1300 sometime.. lol.. need to figure out how I could do the original covers..

I like this one.. might give it a crack in a while, I'm gonna have 2 lambdas to do soon..

And to think some fools say theirs no modelling aspect to x-wing.

I used some individual portion yogurt container plastic when I did mine.

(double post)

Once upon a time I was toying with the idea of doing a Nova Squadron paint scheme.

I've got butt loads of plasticard, I also have some parts from a japanese site that are robot pieces.. lots of circles . I have possibilities galore. Just was thinking out loud. Looks like you have a good start.

Is it possible to get a engine glow on a falcon or slave one like that with out using a air brush? it looks incredible
