I've got butt loads of plasticard, I also have some parts from a japanese site that are robot pieces.. lots of circles . I have possibilities galore. Just was thinking out loud. Looks like you have a good start.
That's from a long time ago, when I tried out some acrylics, and haven't gotten back to redoing it using real model paints yet.
I remember that, I think all you need is a good wash on it and it will pick out the fine lines and details as well as weather and tone down that bright white on there.

That's tempting, but with the acrylics the paint is thick and chunky with much fewer lines and details.
With real model paints I hope to get the white parts to look like the Lambda just above here.

Once upon a time I was toying with the idea of doing a Nova Squadron paint scheme.
can't say I like the Nova pattern much, seems too complicated BUT if you want to do that rising sun style pattern the easiest way would be to spray the area yellow 1st then after giving a few hrs to dry use thin strips of masking tape to cover the yellow rays then spray the whole ship the dark colour then peel the tape off.
I kinda think the YT will look like a dartboard if you cover it in radiating rays.
Is it possible to get a engine glow on a falcon or slave one like that with out using a air brush? it looks incredible
It's possible with washes and careful blending but you'll spend hours to do what will take minutes with an airbrush. I've seen some people use stickers to do the YT engine bar as well.

WOW that is a harsh white.... going to strip it before redoing it? the actual red pattern is striking but if you want to make it work, prime light grey, do a light wash to bring out the detail, then drybrush with white. After that is thin the red a lot and do the pattern, red is often transparent enough to let shading and highlights from underneath show through if you keep it thin.

Definitely. The point of the repaint would be to get rid of the thick layer of acrylic. That is not the first paint job on that miniature, the first one was white and gold, and I removed that and started over. I definitely intend to try practicing with different techniques before putting serious paint on the mini. Thanks for the suggestions.

Decided to make some better turrets for my Y-wings as well since they're barely raised detail on the minis. I filed down the regular ones then built new turrets from the smallest thickness of Evergreen plastic tubing for the base and plastic rod for the gun barrels.
I also wanted to do turrets for my Y-Wings so I tried it with magnets but I wasn't happy because they need so much space which leads to the turret being too high. I then tried it with plasticard, and because I did that I wonder how you got your "gun barrels" to have different thickness in different places. I think it is so hard already to place such small stuff correctly. Could you show / explain how you did it? I checked out Emeralds tubing that you used but they also seem to have 1 thickness .. how did you get your barrels to not have the same thickness everywhere?
