Alternate Game Format: Wingmates

By Baron Soontir Fel, in X-Wing

Hello all.

This is a fun variation that my gaming group has come up with, initially as a way to introduce and interest new players. As we've gone on, however, we've begun to play it as often as the traditional game. It allows for many players, but keeps combat quick and aggressive. I'm sure that many of you have come up with similar ideas, but figured I'd share ours.

The Rules:

You may have as many teams as you have players. (I have never played with more than 4 teams/8 players).

Each team has two ships, neither of which can be worth more than 30 points. These ships do not need to be from the same faction, though it is preferred. Each ship is controlled by a different player. Wingmates may discuss there moves and show each other their dials.

And that's it.

We sometimes play with "radio silence" where wingmates can not discuss their moves or share dials, or with "hacked comms" where the dials may be discussed but may not be shown.

Thoughts?

I have a few friends who I'd love to get interested in the game. Though one has never seen Star Wars :o I was actually thinking about this sort of gaming. Even going for squadrons if they all get hooked and buy their own models.

So you get two thumbs up from me.

sounds fun. i like how u can mix the factions.

Vader + Luke :)

We've done something similar in the past

Good way to help new players get a feel for the game
