coming down to the wire

By Silver leader, in X-Wing

so here we are, weeks away from February. A year of tournaments leading to worlds in November (?) And well here i am, still trial and erroring my way to a squad I'm willing to bring to a stage that i feel is the best of the best.

When i left worlds in November i thought, hell i got like 3 months to make a 4 ship rebel build thats my own. It's not 4 X-wings, or the 2 X-wing 2 B-wing combo that took the top spot. And while i feel like i'm close to an answer, i feel like it's just....not enough.

Please tell me i am not the only one who feels like their finals assignment is due in a week and you've barely got the first paragraph done.

BTW most of this sparked from me getting my ass handed to me in 2 attack rounds

ME: Prototype, prototype, Blue + FCS and Chewbacca

HIM: 6 obsidian's and Howlrunner.

(by the end of the 2nd attack round i had 5HP on the falcon and 1 A-wing. he had 1 tie fighter with 2 damage......don't ask....)

With rebels, my initial thought is, if you want to have a rather unique list, the best way to go about it is to avoid symmetry. Most people with a 4 craft list will go all the same craft (like XXXX), one of each (ABXY) or pairs (XXYY). part of the reason is ease of flying in formation, but it goes to that lizard part of our brains that likes symmetry. So, look for a good combination like (BBBX) or (BBXY) which breaks these unspoken rules.

Iwas thinking maybe some thing like this might work:

Wedge 29pts

+ R2-D2 4pts

Red Squadron Pilot 23pts

Rookie Pilot 21pts

Gold Squadron Pilot 18pts

+ Ion Cannon Turret 5pts

100pts

That 3x X-Wings and a Y-Wing

I want to run Jan Ors with an Ion Cannon Turret, Chewbacca, and a Hull Upgrade with 3 Rookie Pilots... sounds stupidly tough.

Or ( just thought ) drop other x-wing to rookie and add something to y wing to keep it there longer. Don't know what of the top of my head.

R2 units are pretty great, so if you took the Red Squad down to Rookie and added an R2 to the Y-Wing you'd be at 99.

I'm sure there is something pointless we can find for a point :-)

Veteran instincts or determination on Wedge. If you like irony, I suggest draw their fire :D

I would go with a variation of my Blue Garnet squad.

Roark + Blaster + Recon

Dagger + Advanced Sensors

Blue + Advanced Sensors

Rookie

99pts

Wins the new PS 4 war with Roark and 1 other shooting first and dagger shooting at the same time. Add an R2 if you don't care about Init. I don't think it matter much here since you'll tie with about half the squads I would expect to see on the Rebel side. Imperials... well... we have our own secret weapon.

Any thoughts on a Green A-Wing with Squad Leader? At PS 3, it'l help you with level 2 pilots, and it comes in at 21 points...

So i'm down to 3 ideas before my tourne on Feb.8th
