Killing Krieg the Relentless

By Feraldis, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

At what point do the heroes gain the CP for killing Krieg? Does it happen only once when (if) he stays dead like other undying monsters?

Don't have the game in front of me, can you give us more info? (i.e. is he a Lt? Dungeon Leader? Which Dungeon, what's the specific text, etc).

But my guess is if he's undying, it only happens when he "stays dead".

Krieg is the sorceror king's Lt. who only goes to the graveyard if he is killed by something that ignores undying. Otherwise, he begins the next week back at the OL's keep.

I would say you get 4 conquest (and the 250 gold) if you kill him in an Lt. encounter, because he still dies, he just comes back the next turn (relentlessly). You still won the lt. encounter and his minions would still flee the board. Much like you get the 4 CP in the silver legendary area for the blind giant the first, he just comes back to life. The difference would be that each time against krieg is a full encounter where the giant is only that one time through the dungeon. The advantage of killing him with something which ignores undying is you won't have to see him again.

Feanor -

I would argue that it is similar to other undying monsters. If in a Lt. encounter, you kill Krieg, I interpret it as you can still lot the bodies, but you do not gain the conquest. I have seen nothing that differentiates Krieg's undying with any other Undying monster for the purpose of CP awards.

I know that my group would love for me to agree with you, but I can't find any support for the arguement.

I would agree with Feanor, since the reward is the same for other Lts. I.e. the heroes have to do the same thing to get the reward, thrash the Lt. The OL is just given a boon, of allowing the LT to continue in the game...

Well, except for the fact that Krieg the Relentless doesn't actually have Undying as an ability. He has Regenerartion 3 and Poison. Yes, he is only placed in the graveyard if killed with an attack that ignores Undying, but that doesn't mean that Krieg himself has Undying. If he did, he'd be able to use it during his Lt encounters.

You kill Krieg in an encounter, you get 4 CT and 250 gold. Otherwise, he is raised from the dead at the start of the next week. Again, this is not Undying.

Excellent point, shnar. Krieg is not technically Undying.

Like Feanor had mentioned the Blind Giant in one of the dungeon levels, would the heroes gain the CP only the first time that Krieg is killed? I could understand a ruling either way, but it would be nice to see this mentioned in the FAQ.

Everything in the RAW points to the Heroes getting the CP and money for killing him each and every time. I understand where the arguments for getting only the first time he is killed are coming from, but that is an argument that applies almost exclusively to monsters with Undying, which he doesn't have.

Think of it this way: Playing it as the Heroes only get the CP and money the first time they kill Krieg is a huge bonus for the OL. A Lt who you can just have trail the Heroes and constantly attack them because the encounter will yield you CP and the Heroes nothing if they manage to kill him? I'd gladly take that, its a win-win for the OL. The OL loses nothing in that situation, only gains CP and the Heroes will gain nothing for killing him. The only time it would be a danger is if the Heroes have the one item in the game (that I know of, there isn't one in ToI is there?) that ignores Undying, the Copper level Staff of the Grave. Crushing Blow that thing as soon as you can, and if the Heroes don't get it again before the end of Copper than Krieg basically becomes immortal.
