Bobba Fett Squad with 2 Shuttles?

By The_Brown_Bomber, in X-Wing

Boba Fett w/ expert handling & ion cannon (44)

Omicron w/ gunner, FCS & engine upgrade (32)

Omicron w/ Darth Vader (24)

It seems our goal is to make Boba enough of an endgame problem that the enemy wants to focus him down first, yet not so tough that they are inclined to ignore him in favor of going after the shuttles. A fine line to walk, but maybe the ion cannon trades enough early defense for endgame control to force that choice. As an added benefit, it can lock down lower AG small ships for the shuttles to hammer down in the early exchanges (like those annoying Bwings).

Boba Fett (39)Expert Handling (2)Navigator (3)Omicron Group Pilot (21)Fire-Control System (2)Gunner (5)Engine Upgrade (4)Omicron Group Pilot (21)Darth Vader (3)Total: 100

Call me crazy, I'd go hlc, adv, engine on an OGP vader on another, and fett eh

so something like...

Bobba Fett + Expert Handling (41)

Omicon Group Pilot + FCS + Gunner + Advanced Sensors + HLC + Engine Upgrade (32)

Omicron Group Pilot + Darth Vader (24)

Yup, you now have two mobile fighters and a ship that the enemy will have to fire at but you already consider dead

To expand on that, if you play it right you can spread the damage around the three ships by keeping a hurt mobile ship out of arc.

Sensors are better with the shuttle if you also have engine because you can turn 135° in a turn instead of 90° hlc also is gonna make up for the damage you lose with dropping gunner/fcs.

I'm about to run this one at the next tourney:

Omicron + FCS + Gunner + Engine

Howlrunner + Determination

Academy Pilot

I like running this Shuttle setup the same way people run a Vader Swarm, bumping the shuttle into the back of the ties. I like the idea of it better than using Vader crew in a 60 minute tourney, since I won't be automatically losing 24 pts. It also hits similarly hard, and has the option to run the OGP as a flanker in different matchups.

Just throwing this out there for you since lists F and G are becoming more Swarm Like, and we all know how good swarms can be!

The advanced sensors really don't help the shuttle much without Engine Upgrade. With Focus and Target lock being your only real actions, and focus only really helping the Lambda attack, as soon as they flank you, those craft are out of combat for the rest of the game. That leaves Kath to fight the entire list alone. Yes, it's a good Kath setup, but that's basically all you get. You'd be better off just taking 4 Academy Pilots.

Maybe I'm wrong. Give it a try and see, but I think this list is handicapped because of mobility.

But with the Adv Sns you can face the two OGP face to face and just keep them both stationary at all times. Not like I think this is a good strat, at least it overcomes them being flanked and not being able to shoot anything. Given as soon as one dies, you're screwed then.

If you aren't committed to Fett, you could run...

Kath + PTL

Yorr + FCS + Gunner + Engine

Academy Pilot

Academy Pilot

100pts

Just to get some Yorr interaction mostly. Could pump out some damage on first pass and not force Kath to be stressed. I imagine Yorr would die first though. Relies more on using PTL for evade + focus.

im really undecided about going with a second shuttle with vader crew or 2 academy ties. imo the double shuttle build does lack mobility - making it vulnerable. it relies on keeping ur enemies within the firing arc of that vader crewed shuttle. as more players become familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of shuttles i think the vader shuttle will become less effective as it loses its element of surprise and they can just opt not to attack it and stay out of its firing arc most of the time - i know this is simplifying things and a top shuttle pilot will still get it working well but the point is it will become less effective imo.

more and more i think shuttles should be paired with highly mobile ties or intercepters as they complement each other and cover each others weakness a little bit - shuttles r high durability and low mobility, ties/intercepters are low durability high mobility. i know this is rather obvious for most but i think to really maximize the shuttle it is best paired with high mobility ships.

i was thinking about that Nordic Champion shuttle build that ran loads of 3PS ties and realizes he wanted them all to fire before his vader shuttle - take down their shields and then dish out crits with his vader shuttle - something to keep in mind for players pairing a vader shuttle with low PS ships.

Pairing a single shuttle with any slave 1 leaves enough points for two agile fighters - perhaps not enough support for two large ships, even the most mobile big ship in the game = Slave1.

Well, you've certainly gone back and forth a lot. Both lists are fairly solid. I go for the twin TIE list myself, but at this point, it sounds like you just have to fly both list a few times and see what you learn from that.

This is not a position gaining AdvS, this is a park and shoot everything that comes at you type list. Set up both shuttles in the corners and fly them towards the middle of the board. If they sideload one side, then creep forward with the first and high tail it over to the other side with the second one. When you think the ships are going to be in your arc for 2 turns, do a 0 maneuver and fire. 1 bank/straight after. kath is just there as insurance. Advanced sensors is so you always get your actions, not move around the map faster.
