Hey question for you all.

I am curious as to the best way to store all of my Descent components in such a way that setup and breakdown of the game is as quick and hassle free as possible. At the moment I only have the base game and Lair of the Wyrm expansion, plus I am collecting all available lieutenant packs. Of course, I would also like to eventually have all of the expansions as well.

At the moment I have all of the tiles in the LoW box, and all of the tokens/cards in various bags, the minis, and the dice floating in the main box.

I am hoping for a "cleaner" solution. For example, I also own Twilight Imperium and both its expansions. I've been able to store each color of minis from that game in its own small box, and the race specific tech/racial cards in a 2nd similar sized boxes, and all of the game tokens in a box as well and it all fits snugly inside the main game box. When it comes time to play TI, each player simply grabs a box of minis and the box corresponding to the race he drew.

I am hoping I can come up with a similar setup for Descent, but for the life of me, because SO many pieces are for the general play area and vary so greatly in size and shape, I'm just not thinking of a good way to store my bits and pieces that doesn't make Descent's setup and breakdown a big hassle.

Help?

Plano 3700 series deep + core box. Tokien, dice and small/med figs in the tackle box, tiles, cards and dragons in core box. The biggest issue is always searching tiles. I have everything available + an extra dice set.

The constant searching of stuff and the fact I want to paint the mini's made me move to the bigger boxes. I bag my tiles in each group of ten numbers, and the doors and joiners all separated in smaller bags. It's so much easier to find now, and we are setting up our games in several minutes vs 30+ we were before!

That bag idea is a fantastic idea. I'll have to get some zip locks together and do that. I imagine some big tiles still float free though.

I only have the base game, but I build a custom insert in foamcore, based on this one . All my cards are sleeved though, so I had to build one that fits all the sleeved cards, meaning my final design is very different than the one from the Esoteric Order of Gamers.

All the components fit, and everything is very easily accessible.

That looks fantastic! Great paint jobs on the minis too. I am trying to store everything Descent from 1E everything 2E, so it won't quite work for me personally, but I think it's overall a better path than I have gone down.

I actually keep even the bigger ones in the bags too (They fit beautifully in the larger zip lock bags), but I don't think I get whole lot of benefit out of it considering the limited number of tiles that size and how easy they are to find. Smaller bags with free balling tiles would work fine too.

Oh, sorry - didn't quite make it clear enough: the one in the link isn't mine. The one I've made is based on the plans I've linked to (Agreed, his minis are pretty nicely painted). I'll post some photos, whenever I have time to take some.

Ha nice storage solutions guys! A month or 2 ago they asked the same question on the youtube channel: "watch it played"; they had a ton of great video replies. I happened to like one which was cheap and allows me to keep the basic games in their boxes but have everything organized in small plastic containers with lids. I really suggest you guys check the video out.

So, here is my custom build storage solution, made from foamcore:

Pros:

Fits everything from the core box, including doors on stands and sleeved cards.

Cons:

Probably not so great for painted minis, especially the large ones.

Oh yeah, should add mine's holding everything currently available, including a good amount of offical & proxy conversion kit figures

Wow, a lot of great information being posted. Thank you everyone for the great advise. So far I am now finding simply putting sets of tiles in groupw of 10 in a zip lock bag helps tremendously. I think as my collection of expansions grow, I will definitely consider a plano box.

That plano solution looks brilliant too evilhead, it makea my solution look like the dirty hack that it is. Are you worried about the moving around of the mini's that are painted, or have you found it's not much of an issue? Is it storing all the D1E figures as well?

I should have worded it better; I meant it's holding all the 2nd edition stuff available. So far it's got 11 Conversion Kit groups figures in there too.. room for more, currently looking for a Ice Wyrm proxy

And yeah they seem to be holding up fine, I do use that dullcote spray when the painting's done. Maybe it's helping. But realistically all I do is make sure they don't touch the lids. The box just goes from tabletop to car trunk to tabletop, doesn't really get moved much at all when I travel.

I don't let people with liquids near my stuff much less a board game. And generally I'm the only one that cares for the guides.

Maybe take a photo of them and inquire in the replacement parts section on this website - it is worth a try.

Definitely ask FFG if they'll send you replacements. I don't know if they will but it's worth a shot.

Also, hang up the guides on a laundry line or something and let them dry out. The paper is pretty glossy, the damage may not be that bad in the end. As long as they don't get torn while they're wet...

As far as other sources of replacement, no, there aren't any that I know of. There is that Auggie's online gaming store that is known to sell Descent for bits. You could check if they sell the quest guides separately.

I also use the Plano 7771 tackle box. I've got all the 1st Edition figures, including promos, the base game and all expansions, including all the currently released Lt. Packs, and all the game manuals and tiles all in there. Plus all tokens and dice. Everything fits. Most of the tiles fit in the tall white box that goes into the lower right corner. I have cards sorted into plastic card boxes that fit in the lid on the right side.

One small note is that i had to cut out the dividing walls on one of the smaller white plastic boxes to allow for the large tiles to lay flat. I also removed one of the 4 white boxes to allow for the rule books to just sit inside the box along the bottom (i put a few large tiles there as well). I use one of the white boxes for the player, and the other for the Overlord. I just hand the box to the players and take the Overlord one.

This notably does not work for painted minis as they are jammed in there pretty tightly. But otherwise, it's a one stop shop.

I just wanted to add a comment about a solution I have found that is pretty cool. You may or may not be familiar with side loader deck boxes made by ultra-pro fro Magic the Gathering, they are perfect for the put FFG half sized cards in. I scanned all the hero ability cards into my computer and print them out. I have them sorted in a note book for perusal. It makes hero selection awesome as you can look at all the abilities before you decide and the ones you don’t pick can be left in the box.

I use these to store all my FFG half sized cards. Works with the FFG sleeves as well.

You can also keep the merchant deck and others in their respective deck boxes as you play and just draw from the box. Keeps them from getting messy on the table, especially if you sleeve them.

Just to update on my previous post. Descent has beaten me. I can no longer fit everything inside on 7771 tackle box. I've had to expand into two 7771 tackle boxes, mostly due to the large Lt. figures. But, now that i've gotten a second tackle box, there is plenty of room. With the creature expansions, i was afraid it was going to be even more tight, but it actually takes up less room as there are fewer monsters in a group in 2nd Edition, especially the Bane Spiders. So i actually GAINED some space when i got the creature expansion and put the old ones back into storage. The player figures were a bit bigger, but i've got plenty of space in the small storage boxes inside the tackle box. I highly recommend the 7771...twice in fact.

As i paint my minis i will be glueing on magnets onto the bases, Ill then get one of those flat tub under the bed storage containers, glue down strips of metal then just drop the minis onto the strips of metal.

I bought some magnets, they turned out to be a bit strong and it was possible for 2 minis on the board in adjacent spaces to attract to one another. Putting the magnets in the oven for 15 or so min on max heat helped to reduce the force of the magnets to be usable.

As for the cards, tokens and map tiles i have put them into 2 small tackle boxes and 1 large tackle box. I have it all setup so i just put the boxes on the table, open up a couple lids and the game is virtually all ready to play. This vastly reduces setup/pack up time as well as making the table a billion times more tidy.

Ill take a couple pics next time i have setup.

Just a word on getting replacement rulebooks and such, my rulebook got accidently ripped (cant remember how I think somebody sat on it and then ripped it somehow...) and it was pretty badly ruined as all the pages were torn off the main binding and I just uploaded some pics and sent them to FFG customer service and they promptly sent me a replacement. Very fast and very good customer service.

That Plano 7771 tackle box looks great. Anyone know if it can be bought in Europe? The only shops I have managed to find is in the US, and the customs adds around 50-60 $ charge just to make me pay my import taxes if it comes overseas.
