I want more Stealth Devices, but I don't want to spend $35 for two more cards

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

It seems like you're unwilling to accept that other people have different deciding factors on whether or not they buy, and so you're convinced that everyone buys the way you do. It's a significantly more complex problem than "I want it so I'm going to buy it." Based on my own experience selling specialty toys like this I know that that is not the case.

I like how some people think they know FFG's business better than FFG does. The fact is, FFG has no responsibility to do anything simply because people want them to, even if it's lucrative or makes sense. To pretend like we have a right to certain products at a certain price point is indicative of the false sense of entitlement that plagues too many gaming communities, and I think that's the last thing any of us want around here. It's an argument I've seen a thousand times from Magic players, people some of you probably have more in common with at this point than you'd care to admit.

Look at it this way: Some lists, like some decks, are going to be more competitive than others. FFG prints the cards and the ships, but they do not create the meta - that is a conscious decision that the community makes. They are not deliberately withholding cards to deprive you of a tactical advantage or your hard earned income. By the same token, we are not owed access to certain cards merely because the price is inconvenient, especially when there are perfectly viable alternatives that don't require you to buy four shuttles. I would love to play with a several thousand dollar vintage Magic deck, but I don't suppose that Wizards of the Coast should print me one merely because they can make a buck off it. I play within my budget, and consider myself lucky that it's enjoyable for me to do so.

if any of you have army builder, xwing is on there and you can build your lists anyway you want, it is currently updated only to wave 2, the wave 3 ships and cards have not been added yet.

but not only can you create an army list, but you can have it print up all the ship cards you are using in your list

Or you could use Battlescribe which does the same, is free, has Wave 3 ships and cards, and works on PC, iOS and Android....

When I look at it and see that, in order to get this one card that I want, I have to spend $30 and get a fig I don't want (which I can't sell because the only reason anyone bought it to begin with was that one card and some people just have to have it all), I'm much more likely to just turn away from the game entirely and find one that doesn't do that.

Make a product that your customers want to buy and make it easy for them to give you their money. Do not engage in behavior that causes them to resent you. Bundling has its place, but so does a la carte.

Honestly, if you're going to leave a game you don't want to spend money for, nobody's going to miss you.

Seriously - I don't mean that as a troll, but if a game isn't for you, it's just not for you. That includes the sales model. You're basically demanding that FFG give you the parts you want essentially for free, despite the fact that the cost for the other major components aren't. I don't like GW and the way they sell things, or the cost point to play it. So I don't play GW games. I don't demand that they give me the models for free.

As near as I can tell, pretty much nobody actually resents FFG for it. We may grumble a bit, but I've seen more griping over the lack of availability, and when people are spending more time complaining about not being able to buy it at all than they are complaining about how it's packaged, I think it's doing fine. And honestly, even with the card issues X-wing is a relatively cheap game to play.

If you're holding out hope for FFG to change their model, you're probably better off just giving up. They've decided on this model for many of their games now. There's obviously no perceptible loss of customers over it, so there's no real motivation for them to change the model on what is a wildly successful game. If you don't like it, you're welcome to play with empty bases, printed cards, and masking tape, but I wouldn't hold my breath for card packs.

Though, it isn't too unreasonable to expect certain key upgrades may be rereleased in future expansions, ala Push the Limit. Patience can be a virtue.

Not at all. In fact, I'd expect this to continue. Cards are a motivator to buy certain models, and they can do so for multiple models at once quite easily.

I'll be the first to admit that I bought a third YT-1300 to get another engine boost.. The model itself will probably end up living on my desk at work next to my Darth Malgus statue, although my wife likes running the YT-1300 so I might need to keep it with the rest of the fleet.

Hi all, I'm new here, been looking around for a while, thought I'd chime in. I recently found this game and a couple expansions, (Falcon, interceptor, and Y-wing) at a bookstore of all places and on a whim decided to try it out, one of my motivations was just how awesome the Falcon looked in its packaging. Once i got it all home I was very pleased with how easy and intuitive the rules were to learn, only about 15-20 minutes to get the basics down. I come from the GW world although I haven't bothered with them and there rampant price increases for a few years now, so when I found a game with simple rules, pre-painted minis and what to me is extremely affordable prices, I was hooked. I guess what I'm getting around to saying is that I personally don't see it as a big deal to buy a few extra expansion packs to get what.

The fact is, FFG has no responsibility to do anything simply because people want them to, even if it's lucrative or makes sense.

I see no one making demands of any sort. I know a few people have stopped buying things because of the way cards are packaged, but clearly that's a rather small % and has no meaningful impact on the game. They are still having issues keeping Wave 1 stuff in stock at my LGS, so clearly X-Wing sales aren't hurting.

FFG has no responsibility to do what's suggested, but that doesn't mean people shouldn't make the suggestion at all.

It's completely possible that FFG will never produce any sort of card pack, perhaps their answer to the highly desired cards is new expansion packs like the Imp Aces pack. But then again maybe they will. You have no more way of knowing what their plans are or what makes sense to them then I do.

The fact that I can't prove that my idea would be more profitable, doesn't mean I shouldn't suggest it. I'm not making demands, I'm not expecting FFG to start losing money just because I want stuff for less, or free.

I'm simply making a suggestion about something that may or may not make sense for FFG to do. It's up to them, not us to decide if it's something they want to do.

One of the nice things about this game is the fact that it encourages the players to get other modells than just those for your army.

Combined with the fact that the rules are easy, it makes it more of a game that you can invite friends to play.

The other side is that one faction will not be accused of bein Imba, as most playrs will play rebells and imperials.

The backside is that there is an extra cost for some builds. It is not so bad really. The games are small, so even in the hardes cases (like me wanting 3 BWs + Sensor Jammer) it will not hurt the personal economy to badly.

Thra are also slutions.

-Agree to make a proxy game

(surely the other player has some builds he wants to try)

-Borrow the cards

(you might make a deal with a player so that he can use yours for his next game if you can use his in this game)

-Buy a new ship

(Maybe you can donate it to a friend that is new to the game, but keep that one card)

-Use the extra ship to make a cool conversion.

(If you dont have friends, a converted modell might be a good starter for a outside-the-game social interaction)

I'm relatively new to the game, but don't see a problem with the way things are packed.

I'm currently trying to get hold of one of each ship that's already out. Doing quite well on that front too by the way, only need 4 more (and that's only because my LGS hasn't got them stocked, i found all the others there)

I think it's quite good to be limited by what you have in list building, makes you think more instead of just getting a list of the net and using it .

On the other side, if you do buy ships just because of the cards, you end up with a bigger variety to choose from, and make some whacky builds now and then for fun games.

I have four of everything just so I don't run into problems with trying to build up something for either side.. I also have 6 interceptors, 7 TIE bombers and 10 plus TIE fighters.. and multiples of the large ships.. but when I set up to play, I am typically the only one that has the game, so it works out best.. also showing new players, it is helpful to be able to show them different ahips and if they Have a favorite I can let them play it and have fun..
