IG-88

By Silver leader, in X-Wing

I would like to see a new ability, If you wookiepedia the IG-2000 it will tell you that that ship has two claws in the front to ram or clamp or tear into other ships with, I think it would be cool to see a ramming attribute to the IG-2000 and maybe receive stress in doing so.....who knows. There are a lot of great ideas for having an IG-2000 ship going around in the forums.

How about the ability to attack a ship it ends it overlaps with? A successful attack could represent a "grappling attack" and would result in

a) "Normal" damage,

b) "Critical" damage, or

c) equivalent to an "Ion" hit (1 damage plus target only moves 1 straight next turn)

Chris

Off topic, so I would hidden text this if I could.
There are inertial dampeners. So no, not really because of magic. However even if we ignore the space magic without air resistance adding additional pressure on the surfaces and frame I don't see inertia as a significant source of frame stress, at least not at the speeds that these ships move at.
However back to the topic, from my reading stress is an abstraction of both pilot fatigue and vehicle fatigue, which is why the dials are different. Given IG-88's droidness I think some stress reduction, or ignoring, is appropriate. (Provided he also gets no focus.)

Perhaps he could accumulate Stress in the normal way, preventing him from taking actions this turn but automatically shed it at the end of the turn (which would not effect his actions next turn).

I'm liking where this is going. No stress makes logical sense, and ion hits should upset him just as any other ship. As for any kind of assistance to others, I can't see it being logical. He's an assassin droid. His sole function is to take the target out. Some kind of rule that makes him select a particular target and pursue it to destruction would seem appropriate.

Thoughts?

I think if he recovered used target locks that would demonstrate single minded killing. (Has to relock the same ship though).

Supposedly two laser cannons and an ion cannon - which in X-wing terms means probably ATTK 2 and a cannon slot. There's no reference to the IG-2000 carrying missiles or bombs, though, unlike Fett's Slave 1.

What you're missing is that it mounts a pair of fairly good tractor beams, which I for one would be very interested to see mechanically.

Tractor beams could be very powerful depending on how they were described, you have a tool that potentially removes actions, movement and arguably evade dice. That would either be horrifically expensive, I'm thinking teens for points, no less than 10. Or reduce the effect to something similar to the xwing games where it locked movement but not well enough to shoot guns. It was very effective when paired with missiles though.

Stress on ships could easily refer to stressing the engines to red line to perform the manoeuver. You then have to let them cool down.

really lo ing the idea of IG-88 and his IG-2000 ship being a new ship to x-wing. hopefully this topic stays hot and someone at FFG will notice it.

The trick for me is that they will need some other pilots for the IG-88 ship so that they can have 3 or 4 cards.. I think that may be a deal breaker if it doesn't show up. I think they could go the route of Slave 1 though and add HK style characters, possibly borrowing from the assassin droid in the Old Republic story line. So you could have the generic be "Droid Pilot" and then, "HK assassin Droid" then IG-88 or something.

from what I understand there were multiple IG-88 droids, there could be multiple attribute each droid could add to the ship. Or like stated above different HK droids. It would be interesting to see what FFG would do on stats and abilities if they do create him

Yeah someone else had mentioned that there were multiple, but also that only one was actively hunting. I think that having a different look would make the two or three or four droid pilots more fun to have, not just IG-88 this and that.'

Second, I think that "droid" should be a class of pilot with distinct rules, so we can bring in those funky things from the clone wars, I would like to see a trade federation faction, and also for the things the empire was using in the EU. There could even be droid re configurations of existing ships which would open either stand alone card options, or new prints for old ships, new Droidier models.... so much possibility.

I myself would love to have a all federation trade squad, Vulture droids, buzz droids, it would be interesting to see a change in ships from different eras of Star Wars

I remember in the Han Solo novel I had as a kid that there was a whole region of space, at the height of the Empire, that still belonged to the Trade Federation. I would love to see them, or the Hutts, get a faction. (Perhaps by then they were the same I don't really know). Still they had massive droid forces in the movies and that stuff is still out there just waiting for mass production.
