Clone Wars: Attack Wing

By Taalon Roagh, in X-Wing

I'm just putting this out there for discussion. Being someone who enjoyed episodes 1 to 3, as well as countless hours of the game Battlefront II, I would love to see an X-Wing game based in the Clone Wars.

Hope it isn't called Clone Wars: Attack Wing though. Doesn't sound right.

I would actually prefer a lot of the ships in the core X-Wing.. there is only 19 years between the Clone Wars and Yavin, and a lot of the ships will still be in use, I know the Y-Wing, Z-95, YT-1300, Slave-1, V-Wing and Arc-170 are. The Arc-170 would make an interesting ship, it's not as good as the X-Wing, but does have a rear arc. The V-Wing is a cheap maneuverable fighter.

Since it should use all the same rules, I'd agree. There's just a lot of people who seem to dislike anything that isn't the original, non special, movies.

So thought I'd put this to the forum and see if that would please the "canon fodder" members.

P.S. by non special I meant not special edition.

Now if we were going to get a second game... STARFIGHTERS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC.... Oh yeah...

No wonder you call yourself MASTERMIND

I say they should just open up the game to all the movies, TV shows and books. it you don't like them don't fly them. I am a BIG BIG origional trilogy fan, but have no issues with other ships.

Agreed, they have plenty of room to work with but stuff like Dukoos weird ship would be cool.

The problem is that it might get convoluted if they add too many ships too fast. I figure they can go either one way or another. Either go back in time to the prequel trilogy - which is likely to mean ships that are weaker... or go forward and into the EU more, and get more of those ships instead. Personally I'd rather go into the EU to get ships on a similar power scale.

However, if the game goes strong for many more years, then sure I wouldn't mind the occasional expansion into the prequel trilogy. Balance might be difficult though.

Sorry but as the meme says: nope nope nope nope.

The prequel ships don`t interest me. They don't look as cool, they would be 19 years in the opposite direction so they would be worse Fighters than the ones we have now, and I kind of feel like some of the designs were just drek in the prequels. Yes the Arc170 and V wings look cool, but I cannot think of one droid fighter that I would like to see on the table.

And yes I am not a fan of the prequels. And maybe that colors my judgement. But I think Fantasy Flight won't do the prequel ships because the know where the money is.

TBH they should add interesting ships which were flying in the Rebellion period. Quite a few of the Clone Wars ships were still active in the period, and not necessarily worse than Rebellion era ships. Remember the Tie Fighter is cheap, designed to be mass produced. A top of the range Clone War ship will be better than the Tie Fighter. The Eta-2 was so fast and maneuverable only Jedi could really fly it. The V-Wing, was a precursor to the Tie Fighter but had shields. etc.

BTW I agree on the Droid fighters, I don't believe any of them are still in use. So wouldn't fit the setting. Though I love the Trident.. I don't think it fits X-Wing.

If they Firespray and YT 1300 were around for both series I dont see why the other ships couldn't be around as well. Just beause a ship isn't designed after a letter or a bow tie doesn't mean its not good. I wouldn't care for the flying droid ships. Darth Mauls ship, Naboo fighters, Jedi star fighter, and plenty more. They could maybe reprint the firespray with Jango and do some new pilots for it.

On a side not I think it would be cool if they just did more pilots for some of the other ships. X-Wings, Tie Fighters, And Interceptors will have plenty of pilots. Would be nice to see some more for the other ships.

Then don't play with them. As I said before, their inclusion does not diminish your enjoyment of the game. Simply don't play with them.

But not having them does diminish my enjoyment. I want them.

er they have done all the IV-V-VI ships. OK if you include hugh ships then there are a few of those they could releas.. But they have done every fighter from the films now. So everything from now on will be EU.

Agreed, at least until the new movies/TV Shows come out and they use the new stuff. I would expect they will simply do Rebellion-era EU stuff until the Episode VII comes out next winter, and then they will likely do all the new shiny stuff.

I see the counter argument for clone wars in X-Wing and perhaps that is where it should be a separate game. Though I hope not separate rules.

I must admit, I far prefer the Republic to the Droids when it comes to the smaller craft.

I think we might well see stuff from Rebels before that, because it's the right period.

I really like the Trident, but I agree the Droids don't really fit so well with IV-V-VI

I'd quite like to see stuff like the ARC-170 and the Torrent as well as the ETA-2 maybe. Main issue here is if they make such a game, the other side has very very little to offer. Droid ships don't make sense here as they are supposed to be controlled by a mother ship like a hive mind (right?). That leaves us with only the ugly Sith Infiltrator (medium sized ship) and the weird thing from Episode II that Count Dooku (really, that's the worst name for a vilain) rode, which is also not a starfighter. So I guess that's that.

Now that I've thought about it a bit, adding a Droid Faction would be a great way to keep the game going in a few years. In my opinion, fit wouldn't be too difficult to come up with deas, and it could be really fun and interesting! Imagine abilities based on the Droid's being controlled by a central command post. Maybe have very few named pilots, but groups of the same generic could.assist eachother. Could be something fun to add when the game needs something fresh, and would make some sort of sense in the central story line, without reaching to pirate or merc factions.

This, though, is coming from a man who was born after the original trilogy had started and played plenty of clone wars based video games and REALLY enjoyed the newer movies.

Two ways to solve the Droid issue:

1) Assume the control mother ship is off the board.

2) FFG will just have to make a droid control ship model as an objective.

Marketing for the Prequel stuff would probably be kept under the same "X-Wing: Miniatures" rather than a stand-alone game. they would probably just append "Clone Wars Era" or something along those lines.

I would expect a starter with 2 new factions Republic and CIS with 3 ships: (1) ARC-170 and (2) Vulture-Starfighters.

the ARC-170 I believe is the X-Wing's Grandparent. and The Vultures were used similarly to how the Empire uses their TIE fighters "En Masse"

anyways I think it would be an "Era Expansion" rather than a standalone because the flavors of ships from the Prequel Trilogy aren't as plentiful as the original series. and as mentioned the Original Trilogy has the Sequel Trilogy and EU for ship expansions.

Most likely the 1st one. TIE fighters are Carrier-Based or Star/Ground-Based. the same could be said for the droid controlled ships since i'm pretty sure the CIS starfighters were not Hyperdrive equiped

Technically, the Outrider was in Episode 4 SE, so there's that.

I do like some of the prequal ships since I loved the tv series if not quite as in love with the clunky movies. The problem to me isn't the ships per se it's which faction do you add them too? since the Republic becomes the Empire the ships it flew kind of ended up or evolved into the Rebel and Empire ships that we know and love. Without adding new factions how do you sort them? Z-95 seems like an obvious rebel ship, same for the earlier armoured Y-wing, maybe the ARC-170, what about the V-Wing and ETA-2 do they become empire since they are TIE precursors? Do you try and fit in the Seperatists droids and various race ships at all?

That's why my opening post was about a separate game. Though some players might like to mix things up from time to time (like me), I think the two eras should stay as two different eras.
