Since several SW ships appeared in Firefly, and a firefly class transport was written into the background of a comic, is the Firefly series + Serenity cannon? Yes. I think so.
Has no weapons, so I would use as a Senator's shuttle.

So uh. The YT-2400 is an upgraded YT series transport.
What if it couldn't take modification cards?
EDIT: In order to make up for its very likely better stats.

A Firefly is 270' long. Just a bit smaller than a GR75 Rebel Transport. I highly doubt we are going to see something that big on the board that's official.

I kinda wanted to get a Firefly from Shapeways and paint it for that boardgame... I wouldn't mind having that piece in a "protect/destroy the Serenity" mission.
It could have a "CryBaby" upgrade card...

Edited by HoosteenWell, remember that the Falcon is a heavily modified 1300. The Outer Rim Smuggler is probably a better example of an actual 1300, fresh off the assembly line.
Han cheats.
Megamaid and the Winnebago should be made for X-Wing. Appearing in the Star Wars spoof Spaceballs, surely they would count as canon.
or not ![]()
And since a firefly class ship made an appearance in S1E1 of BSG, should we include vipers, raptors, and cylon raiders in SW cannon?

Here is a model kit of the Serenity. http://www.starshipmodeler.com/other/au_prefly.htm
As for the YT-2400 upgrades I can see it having 1 cannon, 1 crew member, system upgrade, 1 missile. Perhaps barrel roll would be the ability of the Outrider named ship upgrade card. Of course it would gain the elite pilot talent depending on the pilot. Perhaps it could have a less than 360 degree primary weapon arc, like 180 or 270. I wouldn't make it as tough as the YT-1300, probably more like the Firespray in terms of hull and shields. For attack I'd say 3 and defense 2, I see it as smaller and more maneuverable than the YT-1300. Cost in pilot skill would really be determined by pilot ability, but baseline again similar to the Firespray. Actions would be evade, target lock, and focus. Overall, I'd say it's more comparable to the Firespray than the YT-1300 stat and ability wise. Well that's my opinion of what it could be.

The Reaver edition of Serenity has a flak38.
I could be wrong, but I think there's a YT-2400 in the distance behind the Nebulon-B at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. Nice ship - I don't know if I'd want to see it in X-Wing, but our Edge of the Empire smuggler definitely wants one!
As long as the YT-2400 is notably different from the Falcon, particularly if it has a partial turret fire arc or can barrel roll like some fan-made versions, it should add some positive variety to turret-heavy Rebel lists.
It's definitely an inevitable addition as one of the most famous EU ships, and unlike the Z-95 its design has been consistently established (well unless you're going by the old Essential Guide to Vehicles & Vessels diagrams). The real question is who we'll see as pilots and crew?
Why? It's a light freighter that was designed to replace the YT-1300. For the most part, it should fly the same. So then your question becomes, "But if it flies the same, why add it to the game?" Why not? It's another model to pick from. I don't see people complaining about Imperial Guard and Bloodstriped Interceptors.
Look, any muscle car from the '60s is, for the most part, going to drive like any other muscle car from the '60s. Any Gen 4 flighter is going to fly like any other Gen 4 fighter. The similarities and abilities are close enough that, especially for the scale that we're talking about, it's not worth arguing over the differences.
If this game was more like Starfleet Battles, where you're meant to have ONE vessel and you control every single thing about that vessel, THEN you care. But for our purposes, who gives a hoot if the stats are basically the same? Don't like it, don't buy it.
The only problem you run into is that FFG has decided to include the cards with the figs, rather than making them separate. The cards really should have been separate. I may want to fly with 4 TIE Advanced, but I sure as heck don't need 4 Darth Vaders.
That's a rather lazy wet-blanket design outlook, and doesn't counter the question of why not take the effort of making a different ship model have different stats/cost (why make any of the ships have different stats, if we're going to beg those kinds of dismissive questions?). Why not just say anyone who wants a YT-2400 should just order a Shapeways printer model (and if they don't like it, don't buy it?).
The YT-2400 is a newer design, it's a lighter vessel with different standard engines and weaponry, crew compliment and equipment. It could just as easily have a couple points difference in hull/shields and an additional choice in the action bar and make it a distinct gameplay option.
I want more variety of ships, even if they aren't significantly different than other ships in the game. I'm in this for the fluff just as much as the strategy. On either account, this game is a winner. The collector in me would pick up just about anything new added to the game. The player in me would experiment with all ships. Obviously, I'm not in it to win tournaments. But I sure do have a lot of fun. Bring on the EU. I'm not an OT biggot. And if the ships add a new dimension to the game, that is just I ing on the cake. I like the idea of a different primary firing arc for the YT-2400 even if it isn't canon.

No, it really isn't. The game, as designed, is not meant to be expanded too far. There's a small number of stats with a small range of values and a small number of abilities. There's only so much you can do. That's why you're seeing more and more EPTs that are kind of head scratchers (and really, how come only that one pilot can learn that particular ability? Realistically a higher skilled pilot would have more of these skills. In game terms, skill 9 could have 9 abilities, down through skill 1 having 1 ability. But that brings up balance issues and completely throws off their points costing, so you end up with a system that works fine for gaming, bur really doesn't make much sense)
Beyond that, two designs that are effectively the same should not have different stats, especially when you consider the scale that the game is played at. Again, if you were flying a single ship and had full control over every aspect of it, then it would be important. But that's not what this game is. A handful of ships per side, with games being played in an hour. That puts a lot of pressure on how you handle details and stat-out designs.
Now, in the specific case of a YT-2400 vs a YT-1300, yes, the YT-2400 is smaller and lighter. The *stats* could/would/should change a little. I was not clear on this next point: They should *fly* the same or similar. Basically the same maneuver dial. I think it's pretty chintzy to throw in a barrel roll, but I wouldn't complain if someone did.
Insisting that everything has a unique statline (incl. action bar, movement dial, etc.) is how you end up with power creep.
I honestly don't care what ships they make. You aren't forced to buy em. Repaint a dozen B-wings, pull ships from Kenners old toy line, make a one man star destroyer. Just release something. Star Trek has a half dozen ships every 2 months. Give me Republic Gunships, (Don't care if they cant fly in space) ARC's Naboo Fighters, Serenity, The Dropship from Aliens. Just release something ...
Star Trek has a half dozen ships every 2 months.
While I'm on board with wanting new ships, this is a deeply misplaced comparison.
With only a few exceptions, WizKids is reusing existent models that were already in production. They could have released three dozen ships in two months if they'd been inclined to. X-wing is developing from scratch. And that's before you consider the differences in quality - if FFG had been willing to slam out the low quality crap that WizKids is, we'd have the ships everyone wants.
I want to see new ships as much as anyone, but "Do it like WizKids!" is just plain wrong.
Yeah, whine about lack of stuff coming out all the time. Then when stuff comes out they whine about lack of supply, playtesting, quality, rules, faq...
I'm content with the release schedule. Like all things FFG, they are focusing on quality, not quantity. I'm good with that.
I'm also content with the lack of a Wave 4 announcement. We know a Wave 4 is on the way, the confirmed as part of the Rebel Transport & Tantive IV news blitz. We know Imperial Aces and the huge ships are not Wave 4. How about Imperial Aces and the huge ships make it into players hands before they announce the next thing? A bunch of news about stuff that's not going to be released for a while, before the other pre-release stuff we know about would be weird IMHO.

My Edge of the Empire politico/thief wants a Firespray. So bad.
Also consider that the empire has 2 large ships - I'd like to see the rebels also get 2 large ships.
As someone who mostly plays Imperials, I'd just like to see the Imperials finally get a ship that is as good as the Falcon.

Could be worse - they could be 40k players.
My issue is not the release schedule, it's the release schedule sliding... The Imperial Aces is annoying not because there was a gap between them and 3rd edition, it's that they keep sliding out of my little paws... **** them
Here here... sigh
the more you tighten your grip, the more systems will slip through your fingers
Edited by oneway... We know a Wave 4 is on the way, the confirmed as part of the Rebel Transport & Tantive IV news blitz. We know Imperial Aces and the huge ships are not Wave 4. ...
I had to go back to the "Assemble the Fleet" article, because I wasn't sure they actually confirmed a Wave Four. I thought they just said the Epic ships were not Wave Four. Here is the quote:
The Next Wave?
Because our past X-Wing expansions have all fit a model of four simultaneous releases, many of you may wonder whether or not the Tantive IV and Rebel Transport Expansion Pack are part of our fourth wave of expansion ships. They are not. These are special additions to the X-Wing line and will not supplant or disrupt our next wave of starship expansions (details of which will be announced at a later date).
This gives me "A New Hope". Time to stop worry about whether there will be new ships and start worrying about what they will be. ![]()
And when.... sigh
