YT-2400 Is in A New Hope Special Editions

By newmagrathea, in X-Wing

That makes it Movie canon not EU. I say build it FFG.

Is it hidden behind the blurry picture of Bigfoot?

Oh, of course they're going to do the Outrider, whether or not it is considered EU. Which, funny story, Shadows of the Empire is actually considered completely canon with the movies already.

This has been known for quite some time.

Game-winning argument right there, since they'll obviously never produce any ships which didn't appear in the movies!

Wait, what?

I bet I ca splice any ole ship into the background of any of the movies. Doesthatmake it canon?

That depends. Is your name George Lucas?

It was a little lame adding the Outrider, but that's not why it's canon. The whole Shadows arc was a pretty big deal.

Awww, does this mean we have to consider the "Special" Editions canon? :(

Guys. SoTE has been considered hard canon for some time.

I don't understand everyone's hang up with canon in the first place. They're clearly not bound to "hard" movie canon. They're clearly free and willing to draw from a variety of sources (Moldy Crow). The less they restrict themselves to ships that only appeared onscreen the more ships we get.

So who cares?

The HWK is in the game. It's done. It's no less real or official if it was or wasn't inserted into the background of a special edition for half a second. So why are people still obsessing over this?

The blue font is implied.

All I'm saying is, as long as we keep buying the ships, they'll keep making more ships. And I'd rather get a HWK which may or may never have appeared onscreen, or some ship from a novel or comic book or video game that everyone likes, than most of the 'hard canon' stuff we saw in the prequels. ;)

I wouldn't mind a "Clone Wars: Attack Wing". But that's another thing....

Just voicing an opinion here but I think anyone fixated on canon probably should put the computer down, pack the game into a drawer and do the following before returning:

1) go for a walk outside and meet people.

2) go out for a meal with friends, perhaps before or after bowling or something like that.

3) meet someone and go on a few dates.

Now return and remember one thing about all fantasy and all fiction:

Last week Leland Chee, the manager of the Lucasfilm Story Group tweeted that there is now no distinction between Canon and EU, there is just Canon. It's not clear what is considered Canon in what was EU.

All that said, we have EU ships now, what would stop FFG from further EU ships? We know they have confirmed a wave 4 is on the way. We are out of on-screen ships, it's gotta be all EU ships, right?

For Wave 4 I'm hoping: E-wing, TIE Defender, YT-2400

Wave 5: K-wing, TIE Avenger, YT-2000

Wave 6: The Bounty Hunters: Punishing One, IG-2000, Hound's Tooth

And then we can argue over who's build lists are more canon.

Or maybe some of those fighters that transform into Star Wars characters! :D

Honestly, the game doesn't need the YT-2400. I'll even say it's a detriment.

Powerful turret-based ships remove a great deal of maneuver from the game, and thereby neuter any ships such as the Interceptor that rely on maneuver. The Falcon may not be the most powerful thing in the game, but from the perspective of what it actually does do the game, it's the worst.

The Falcon had to be there - it's probably the most iconic Star Wars ship there is. And it had to be good, because hey, it's the Falcon. But we certainly don't need another one.

I see what you are saying, BUT- considering you can face multiple falcons NOW - how exactly does the Outrider harm the situation?

Also consider that the empire has 2 large ships - I'd like to see the rebels also get 2 large ships.

That was what I was going to say, that boat has sailed, you can already field a whole crew of YT-1300s.. But I've seen a version of the YT-2400 with 180 front arc, lower HP and a barrel roll. I think that would be a lot more fun to play with and against than the falcon.

I don't have a problem with large ships in themselves, it's the powerful turret platforms that are a problem. They require little in their own maneuvering, and they nullify pretty much any maneuvers an opponent might try.

Even if the points cost is in the same range as the Falcon is currently, the -2400 would mean more choices and more options, some of which would be good, meaning we'll likely see an increase in two-large-turret builds. That's not something the game needs.

Ooh, can't agree with that - the big Naboo yachts were gorgeos! I think the Naboo and Jedi Starfighters would look pretty moist as models too, even though I didn't live them in the films.

As long as the YT-2400 is notably different from the Falcon, particularly if it has a partial turret fire arc or can barrel roll like some fan-made versions, it should add some positive variety to turret-heavy Rebel lists.

It's definitely an inevitable addition as one of the most famous EU ships, and unlike the Z-95 its design has been consistently established (well unless you're going by the old Essential Guide to Vehicles & Vessels diagrams). The real question is who we'll see as pilots and crew?

Why? It's a light freighter that was designed to replace the YT-1300. For the most part, it should fly the same. So then your question becomes, "But if it flies the same, why add it to the game?" Why not? It's another model to pick from. I don't see people complaining about Imperial Guard and Bloodstriped Interceptors.

Look, any muscle car from the '60s is, for the most part, going to drive like any other muscle car from the '60s. Any Gen 4 flighter is going to fly like any other Gen 4 fighter. The similarities and abilities are close enough that, especially for the scale that we're talking about, it's not worth arguing over the differences.

If this game was more like Starfleet Battles, where you're meant to have ONE vessel and you control every single thing about that vessel, THEN you care. But for our purposes, who gives a hoot if the stats are basically the same? Don't like it, don't buy it.

The only problem you run into is that FFG has decided to include the cards with the figs, rather than making them separate. The cards really should have been separate. I may want to fly with 4 TIE Advanced, but I sure as heck don't need 4 Darth Vaders.

Well it had a rotating cockpit (like a B-Wing) and could rotate much faster than the YT-1300, it also was slightly smaller so less overall Hull makes sense.

Since several SW ships appeared in Firefly, and a firefly class transport was written into the background of a comic, is the Firefly series + Serenity cannon? Yes. I think so.
