Big 3 Build

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

Working out a build - I wanted to do a dual firespray build, and I don't have Howlrunner yet., so I thought of adding a lambda to make 3 large ships in one build....

So I came up with this:

Bounty Hunter + Gunner (38)
blank.gif?v49 Bounty Hunter + Gunner (38)
blank.gif?v49 Omicron Group Pilot + Darth Vader (24)

Thoughts?

This squad is good. gunner is a solid option on BH's. their rear firing arc can really hurt trailing ships. from my experience big base ships should avoid asteroids. id try and create a 'killing ground' relatively free of rocks on their half of the play area (ideally).

slow-roll straight at them with ur shuttle and come around for a second pass (it will be slow turn taking 4 turns id say) but ur bounty hunters can keep the enemy busy.

I might also consider

Bounty Hunter

Bounty Hunter

+ Seismic Charges or Mercenary Co-Pilot

Omicron Group Pilot

+ Engine Upgrades

+ Fire-Control Systems

+ Gunner

This makes the OGP pretty OP, as with the FCS, the Gunner's second attack is ALWAYS target-locked, and that TL will replace itself immediately after his attack, so you might as well use it.

Three Bounty Hunters!

My preferred dual Firespray list, as noted elsewhere:

39 Boba Fett

3 Navigator

38 Kath Scarlet

3 Rebel Captive

1 Draw Their Fire

16 Dark Curse

---

It's surprisingly effective for a list with no real action economy. Want to kill Fett? Good luck chasing him. Want to kill Kath? Enjoy your stress. Want to kill Curse? Too bad, better roll some natural hits next time.

I'd go with Draco's list. Much more viable.

I don't understand why you'd give Boba Fett the Navigator crew.... if you are going to use Navigator, then why use Fett in the first place? You could use for example, a regular bounty hunter and have lots of points left over.

Because he can switch to almost any maneuver you want as you reveal the dial. For example, if I reveal a range 1 soft bank to the left, I can change that to a 2 or 3 soft bank to the left, or a 1, 2, or 3 soft bank to the right. If a ship with a lower PS flies into Fett's flight path before he moves, I can change the speed of his own maneuver to accommodate. It gives me the flexibility to change my mind as I see fit to keep myself out of firing arcs.

It's actually a pretty common upgrade in 'Fettigator' lists, though those aren't especially prolific at this point.

But you sacrifice his innate ability altogether by using navigator. I guess you want the higher pilot skill there. I would think it might be more efficient to give the navigator to Kath Scarlet and also toss on veteran instincts, this way BOTH your firesprays have a similar trait

Actually, you don't sacrifice his pilot ability. They work together, not against each other. See page 8 of the FAQ.

Oooohhhh...... ok now that is interesting.

Interesting, fun, and effective. Your opponent will never be able to guess where you're going, because you won't even know for sure until you're doing it!

Yes. With "Fettigator", when you select a banking maneuver, you are, in fact, selecting all 6 of them simultaneously.

Add an Engine Upgrade and an Expert Handling or a Daredevil upgrade, and you can pretty much place your ship wherever you want it on the board, facing whichever direction you wish.

Add an Autoblaster and... you get the idea.

I thought we were discussing autoblaster in a different thread. Unless you're facing highly defensive ships (3 or more agility) and can consistently put them within range 1 in front of you you're often better off with only the primary weapon. If you weren't boarding a Navigator a Gunner would be a better investment. On the other hand Fettigator and bombs are da'bomb.

ok so staying in the theme of 3 bigs ships ive been thinking about...

100pts

Capt Yorr + Gunner + Engine Upgrade + Rebel Captive (38pts)

Omicron Group Pilot + Vader (24pts)

Bounty Hunter + Gunner (38pts)

Not bad. Not bad. I like the look of that one too. Almost makes the BH the priority target.

I havent tested it yet but i this squad can get two zero movement turns from omicron by passing stress to yorr :) then turn the omicron around for a second pass (if its still in one piece).

BH and Yorr are the heavy hitters. I might even be able to autobump my own omicron into the rear of Yorr and get another turn of stall. Let u know how the testing goes - this squad is going to require some skillful flying.

Your lack of excitement is disturbing. ;)

I have ran that list and am 9-2 with it. My losses were one: Sontier Fel with stealth device and push the limit i couldnt get 1 damage through for 7 turns and two: han and wedge list and wedge could get less then 3 hits with some of them crits.

do u mean this list?

Went a little different way today:

BH + Recon + seismic

BH + Recon + seismic

Omi+ Vader

Yep. that was fun. Beat a ABXY list twice today with it. First game was pretty close after the Bus got busted right away (before firing the round after engagement) but the BH's were able to lay down enough damage during those 2 rounds to pull it out with the help of seismic charges. Second game was pretty lopsided, BH's rushed and Shuttle held back forcing the choice of "finish off the shuttle and deal with BH sniping and getting an extra evade at range 3 engagement" or "turn your back on the Vader shuttle". Vader shuttle killed itself 5 rounds or so after engagement to finish off a BWing. The BH's really excel at the spread em out, spread the damage around, tactic. Seismics are also more predictable because they will be colliding a lot with you.

nice squad. how did those seismics work out?

i wonder if it would be worth upgrading omicron to Yorr instead of taking seismics?

I liked them in both games. If you're setting up runs at different angles they are going to do some colliding with one of your 3 biggs or an asteroid. When that happens 2-3 auto damage is nice, twice as nice when they start chasing your BH's in the late game. I can see Yorr being really useful too, it would have been nice in both games to be able to Kturn a BH instead of doing a swing around. I think the auto damage is really nice though.

thats intersting. i think a block and drop tactics like this is something few people have even considered - imo the knock against mines/bombs has always been dropping them unpredictably or catching out high skill pilots with it.

im working a a squad that uses Yorr + Omicron + BH, still tweeking the upgrades.

The more I play around with a build like this... the more I end up wanting to just eliminate the shuttle and go with just 2 firesprays.

Boba Fett + Assault Missiles + Autoblaster + Veteran Instincts + Engine Upgrade + Navigator (57)
blank.gif?v50 Kath Scarlet + Gunner (43)
