Double astromechs allows for combos that are likely too powerful, and thus we wont see them...
Imagine r2 + r2d2 + daredevil. Want 2 shields back a turn?

So it's an upgrade to an upgrade? That could get silly.
I suppose hypothetically it'd come as a second set of Astromechs, just more expensive ones. Hypothetically, I'm not saying it sounds awesome.

Not just that but would it allow you to shed 2 stress? On that note, r2d2 + r2 + engine upgrade + PtL.
Speed 1 or 2 move, +1 shield. Action of choice. Then PtL gives a stress. Boost action becomes green, so +1 shield and -1 stress...
given that the rebel transport also contains a x-wing, I highly doubt any near future "rebel aces" variant will contain more x-wings. If they want to be totally symmetric (at least wave-wise) A-Wings would be my guess.
as for stacking astromechs, sounds silly but interesting.
the real question would be if the astromech upgrade to an astromech has a slot for a further astromech upgrade?
One probably should limit the nesting depth.

It would need to be the Daredevil action. The movement granted by Boost is not classified as a "maneuver" so it isn't effected by R2.
Also from what I remember the stress granted by PTL is given after your second action so the stress cannot be cleared until the next movement phase.
Ah well!
With Rogue Squad being the bad boy squad for the Rebels, any repaints are gonna have to be ones you do yourself.. I found, and will be using, some templates for Rogue ship designators.. and will be doing Rogues 1 through 6 or 7.. and just for grins.. Rogue 12.. if I can get some more cheap X-wings I may do a green or blue squad just for fun..
I think it's very plausible that we'll see a Stealth X-Wing (a repainted model, but also a Title card that will give the X-Wing sensors, maybe at the cost of some attack power or its Torp slot). Throw in some Wraith pilots and a generic low PS 'Stealth Squadron Pilot' (via the current Dark Horse series).
