Optical Mechadendrite

By Mushkilla, in Game Mechanics

The descriptions of the Dark Heresy Second Edition Beta V1 mechadendrite was:

"... It can perform microscopic or telescopic examinations, and the infrared sensors allow the user to ignore penalties for darkness as well as fog, mist and smoke. It can record a number of hours of pict data up to the user's Intelligence bonus, which the character can later review mentally . Each also mounts a glow globe or other light source, ideal for other Acolytes the Omnissiah has not blessed with such superior vision." - Page 164

The red text added some useful and fun implementations of things that one would assume the mechadendrite could do (see through smoke, due to infrared sensor and record footage for playback). But were ommited from the V2 (for no obvious reason).

As these were logical features for such a device and both add opertunaties for interesting and fun roleplay situations, would it be possible to add them to the current text?

"...It is long for a mechadendrite, extending to 3 metres, and grants a +10 bonus to all vision-based Perception tests. The mounted pict devices allow it to examine surfaces at a microscopic level or to be used as a telescopic sight. It also contains an infrared torch and sensors with a range of 40m, and so within this area the ignores combat or other penalties due to darkness, as well as fog, mist and smoke. It can record a number of hours of pict data up to the user's Intelligence bonus, which the character can later review mentally . Finally, the mechadendrite is fitted with a stablight that can be tinted a variety of different colours depending on the controller's whim." - Page 144

Thanks. :D

I let my Tech-priest player record video footage with his optical mechadendrite, and he came up with several creative uses for the capability. For example, the players needed to access some old Administratum records at the Remembrancer's Guild but didn't want anyone to know about their investigation. The Tech-priest and psyker talked the desk attendant into giving them access to the records, then the Tech-priest spend ~15 minutes rapidly paging through the enormous record books and recording the text for later viewing. The psyker then used Erasure to wipe the attendant's memory of the event and the two of them returned to their hotel suite with no one the wiser.
