Upgrades we think we want, and why we really don't want them

If we do see r2d2 on a falcon it could be as a crew version with an appropriate ability. I'd probably expect repair hull or flip damage card or similar since that would line up with the films nicely. maybe it could come as a set with 3po crew?

I'd also quite like to see a version of engine upgrade that gives barrel roll. if only so I can have it on green awings with ptl. call it 'lateral thrusters' or something. 4pts.

That's the same thought of thing, to my mind, though. If you want an A-wing capable of barrel-rolling, then you can have one. Expert handling does just that. As mentioned, it's the 'gaps' in a fighter's capabilities that make it interesting - if an A-wing can do everything going, why use anything else. It also treads on the toes of one of the big dividing lines; barrel roll is a nearly universal Imperial action, in the same way Target Lock is a nearly universal rebel one, with only a few respective opposition counterparts able to do the other.

I think, as you suggest, an R2-D2 Crew card (not necessarily with the same ability) is a nice way to stop people asking for a shield-regenerating falcon (which, I agree, is kind of harsh).

When was R2 on the Falcon in combat? During the escape from the Death Star and the escape from Cloud City. The first time, he didn't participate in the fight; the second time he repaired the hyperdrive, allowing a swift escape.

Thus:

R2-D2

Crew

Discard this card; this ship 'flees' the battlefield, regardless of location.

I'm not sure one can say "Target Lock" is a "rebel" action. There are only TWO ships that do not get that action (T/F and Interceptor) but those ships don't really lack for actions. And guess what? Even THEY will be able to get Target Lock soon for the low cost of a two point modification. Some Interceptors could even add it WITHOUT it really taking up their one Modification spot by using the Royal Guard title. Two thirds of the Imperial ships, including two TIE models, have TL on their cards and the remaining ships will be able to get it.
