B-wings Bump and Shoot

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

The first few times I flew with B-wings I wasn't super impressed. The HLC weren't as good as I hoped, and I just kept wishing I had some X-wings instead, same attack dice, double the agility. And let's not mention that maneuver dial (I would have to use some words unfit for mixed company).

But I have been reading about the Advanced Sensors and I have come up with a new list idea. I would like to here what you all have to say.

Blue Squadron Pilot + Advanced Sensors x3

Green Squadron Pilot + Deadeye + Assault Missiles.

The idea is that the B-wings fly into the backs of the ships they are fighting. Since they have such low piloting skill they will pretty much always move before their enemies and be able to intentionally bump into enemies and be exactly where I want to be. I use the Advanced sensors so I still get to act.

Originally I wanted 4 of these b-wings, but I only own 3 and I figured a TIE Swarm would be this lists worst enemy, so I included an A-wing with Assault Missiles as an little extra deterant.

Sounds fun to me. You might experience the same feelings and want x wings instead. Try to do all kinds of rolls and speed 2 k turns to make sure you get your b wing-ness on for the list.

X-wings can't get advanced sensors. I think that is my B-wing-ness.

I like it. I think the A-Wing will help act as a nice deterrent as you said before for hunting down and weakening TIE swarms. ESPECIALLY Howlrunner builds or more annoying Interceptor squads.

I actually prefer the B-Wing to the X-Wing. The X-Wing is pretty good all around. They do pretty good at jousting, where you fly passed the enemy and turn around. The B-Wing is a close-in knife fighter. It excels at staying at Range 1. With barrel roll and the 2 K-Turn, you can easily stay close to your enemy. If you try to fly a B-Wing like an X-Wing, you will always be disappointed.

I have been recently playing with the premise that hull/shield is superior to agility. You can't lose hull/shields because of a bad dice roll and take some of the unpredictability of the game away. Ever since I started with that premise, I have been winning more games. My knee jerk is to pick B-Wings over X-Wings unless there is a reason to have the extra speed in my lists. I also choose Gold Squadron pilots because they are underrated in the tournament scene as fighters and I can usually put them into action denial and general annoyance mode without people noticing that they are there until it is too late.

You might like 2 B-Wings with Adv Sensors and 2 Y-Wings with Ion Cannons. Boat loads of HP's and a very large dose of movement control.

If you use Blue and Gold's, you have 4 points for a torp or droids.

Shoots well to :-)

I play a similar list called stun gun.

2 Blue

FCS

Ion Cannon

2 Gold

Ion turret

Didn't do as well as I thought it would...

I have a list that I am going to be playing in a big tournament this weekend and I am pretty sure that t will do well just because of its giant ability to take damage. It also has an incredible amount of firepower too. It just sucks in the pilot skill department. It takes a lot more skill to fly an entire list of 2's and still win; way more than I thought.

I've test flown "Stun Gun" once, losing only one Ywing. Granted my opponent was less experienced, he underestimated the speed of my Ywings, allowing me to make 4 ion shots at his stressed PTL saber that was trying a fast flank. After that heavy hitter went down, I split my force, the Ywings running interference with his main force while the Bwings ioned and focusfired down his biggest threats. Dark Curse slipped behind and whittled down the one Ywing until it died, but by then he had 2 ships left verses a healthy Y and 2 Bs that still had shields. He conceded.
