New player, how many should I buy?

By Rogue 4, in X-Wing

Ok here is what I already have:

Core set x2

A-wing x2

X-wing

Y-wing

B-wing

HWK-290

TIE interceptor

TIE bomber

TIE advanced

Which one of the expansions to I need to buy multiples of? I heard the M. Falcon is broken so since I am just now learning I want to play with everything else first before I completely fall in love with it. Should I bother with the Lamda shuttle?

Because of the two cores I like having 3 x-wings and 4 TIEs. I will buy the TIE fighter expansion soon. And I like being able to play Luke, Wedge and Biggs like in the movie. Is there a scenario for replaying the events at the end of New Hope?

Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks!

The Shuttle is a very difficult ship to fly well, but also comes with AMAZING upgrades.

Tie Fighter Expansion comes with, arguably, the best Imperial pilot in the game (Howlrunner).
The new Royal Guard Interceptor set comes with 5 astonishing pilots (i'm including the generic level 6 with an ept here), and some very nice upgrades.

The Firespray-31 is an amazing ship, and includes some amazing upgrades of its own.

The most significant one you need is the TIE expansion because of Howlrunner's significance.

Firespray would be fun to have 2 of em, I only have one atm.

what he said. imo if u have access to 6ties including howrunner, 2 intercepters and 2 slave1's ur in gr8 shape for imperials.

assuming u r building both factions evenly i would consider going up to 2 b-wings and 1 Falcon. keep an eye out for the latest imperial aces expansion too - if u r planning on buying this u might to go for only one standrd intercepter expansion as the aces pack comes with two ships :)

NEED is a strong word. You don't "need" multiples of anything to play but if you want max out your options for a 100 point game I believe someone has put up the "master" list which will say at least 4 of all the little stuff and 2-4 of each of the big ships.

Looking at your list what I'd say you should pick up, besides that TIE Fighter Expansion, are the large ships. If you want to add modifications to your ships that is where you find them. The Falcon and Firespray are two of the best ships available and some have even run three Firespray squads. Although it doesn't get a lot of respect the Shuttle brings with it the upgrades many people want to run the B-Wing with.

Now looking at the ships you have listed the only one I do NOT think I'd really consider using as a "one of" in a squadron is the TIE Bomber. It could be run that way but if I were trying to use it for something other than the unique pilots I'd want 2-4 of them.

Hold on. I don't see an A-Wing on that list. It is significantly different from the other rebel ships you may want one or two but it is also where you get those Push the Limit pilot upgrades that everyone likes talking about. At least until Aces comes out.

since upgrades are interchangeable, for the most part, between factions. IF you're the type to play both sides the best starting point would be using a "collector's mentality" in other words "One of each" It allows you access to everything available. And once you've seen and used everything a bit you'll know what works well with what, then start doubling or tripling up for certain ships and upgrades.

Whoops, I do have 2 of the A-wings. Forgot those on the list.

what should you buy?

at the very minimum i recommend

2 core sets

at least 1 X-wing exp

at least 1 tie expansion

2 Y-wings

1 Tie advanced

3 A-wings

3 Interceptors

1 YT-1300

2 Firespray 31's

2 B-wings

1 HWK 290

2 tie bombers

1 Lambda shuttle

if you have money to spend get enough for 100 points worth for everything as you can run a list of 100 points of single ship spam and still be relatively successful with most lists, minus tie advanced and hwk 290's of course

The shipsyou can get away with only one of:

TIE Advanced

YT-1300

Firespray

Hwk 290

Get as many TIEs as you can. (at least 6)

Get 3 of everything else. Fly them and see what you want more of.

Most ships you will not want more than 5 of even if you love them. At least not for 100 point games.

What you need also depends on your upgrade "needs." If you play the official rules which means you need the card for everything you add then multiple Firespray become necessary for the Stealth Devices and Veteran Instinct cards in some cases, and other ships require multiples. Some people have tried running multiple Blaster turrets and occasionally you may want more Engine upgrades.
